P2a Using ICT in our learning

This week, we have used the laptops to reinforce our learning in 2D shape and to create Autum themed pictures to practise our clicking and dragging mouse skills.

We are becoming much more confident with our class camera to take photographs of work we are proud of in our jobs and in our play.

P2a Houses and Homes

We welcomed the adults in our lives into our classroom this week to share our Houses and Homes work.  It was lovely to meet you!

This week, we have been continuing our Houses and Homes topic inside and outside, by making dens, role playing in our mud kitchen, creating Numicon buildings and creating homes for the three little pigs in our STEM area.

In PE, we have been using Houses and Homes in our warmup.  Can you guess which types of houses we are pretending to be?

P2a Number bonds work

This week, we have been using lots of different concrete materials and games to remember our number bonds. We have worked in pairs, in small groups and on our own.

We started our work on Houses and Homes this week. We like the word bungalow very much!  Ask us to tell you the names of different types of houses as we go out and about at the weekend.

P2B Maths Week

P2B have really enjoyed taking part in our whole school Maths week. We have learned lots of new things and explored our exciting new maths trolley.

We took part in indoor and outdoor activities linked to our numeracy learning. We have explored different ways to make 20 using counters, rek and reks, cubes and numicon.

“I was trying to make 20 in lots of different ways”.

“We were using beads to make calculations to 20”.

Our outdoor area was a great place to investigate concepts, such as capacity, measure and ordering numbers.

“I used measuring sticks to see how long the pipes were”.

“We used pegs to see what side was heavier, one side went down”.

There were lots of opportunties for indoor exploration as well. We used geoboards to make pictures using different shapes, numicon to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and lots more.

“I made a teepee with a triangle”.

“We were making buildings to 100”.

We are looking forward to using these new resources throughout our numeracy.

P2a… the first week

Welcome to P2a!  We’ve been settling into our new classroom investigating our new resources.

Our Work in Progress signs mean that we can leave our play and come back to it later.  This means we can play for longer to develop our ideas and work with different people.

We have been working together in our play.  Here, a group of children are creating shadows in our STEM area.

We’re looking forward to a year of exciting learning together.

This Isn’t Goodbye 1c!

What an amazing year it has been! No words can express how brilliant everyone has been and what wonderful young people they have grown to be throughout the year.

We have had amazing memories throughout the year from our fantastic Rainforest Assembly (who can forget that dance?) to our Teddy Bear Picnics or in general our learning that has taken place daily.

I am so proud of you all and I cannot wait to see you grow even more! Have a wonderful summer holiday.

You will all be missed dearly. Stay safe and have fun!

Lots of love,

Miss Amin x

P1a you are fantastic!

Maths and Numeracy

We continue to develop our  Maths and Numeracy skills consolidating learning about symmetry; numbers greater/smaller than others including the < and > signs; and ordering numbers to 100.

What an amazing year!

What a fantastic year we have had in P1b! Everyone has worked so hard to develop their learning and everyone has made lots of great friendships throughout the year too.

Tomorrow is our last day in Primary 1 and we can’t believe how fast this year has been, we are so excited for our next adventure in Primary 2!

I am sure you will all have an amazing summer holiday making lots of great memories. I I know you will all be fantastic in Primary 2 and I can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Have lots of fun and be safe!

Lots of love

Working hard in P1B!

In Numeracy and Maths we have been revising and consolidating all of our skills!

We have been exploring money, working hard to identify various coins and then deciding what coins to use to make a total amount.

We have been revising symmetry, working hard to create a line of symmetry and symmetrical patterns.

We have also been learning all about odd and even numbers, we are now able to identify these and are able to explore number sequences involving odd or even numbers.

We continue to revise strategies for addition and subtraction, we are becoming much quicker at solving these calculations mentally!

In Literacy, we have also been consolidating our skills. We enjoy exploring lots of different books and enjoy reading on our own or with friends.

We have also been working on answering tricky questions about a text, we find it useful to identify key words such as ‘where, how, why or who’ and have been using these to help us create our own questions for various characters.

We continue to develop our knowledge of phonemes, we have been working hard to identify words which contain these sounds.

As we have finished learning about keeping safe and healthy, we decided we wanted to learn a little bit about the human body. We can now identify most parts of the body and we are also able to label these parts too!

We also completed a wordsearch, searching for and highlighting the names for different parts of the body.

Sports Day!

Last week, we all took part in sports day.

We had so much fun!

We loved exploring all of the stations and enjoyed taking part in relay races. We had lots of fun supporting all of our peers and it was so exciting having families there to support us too!

We can’t believe Primary 1 is almost over! We are determined to keep up the hard work until the end of term.

Hard Working Pupils in 1C!

Hello,

Welcome back to our blog, we can’t wait for you to see all the amazing learning that has been happening in our class throughout the last few weeks.

Sports Day just ended and it was such a fantastic event, we all had fun participating in all the games and races!

We have completed our Rainforest topic and are now exploring Nutrition, Health and Safety.

Here are a few pictures of us showcasing our learning and posters for the different animal groups!

We have been practicing to use the Green Cross Code to ensure we are keeping ourselves safe when crossing the road.

Also, we have been learning the importance to keep ourselves safe in dangerous situations! Here we completed a cut and stick, we had to decide whether a situation was safe or unsafe.

Within our Health Topic, we are looking at ways to keep ourselves happy and healthy. We have been exploring the Eat Well Plate and learning how to have a balanced diet. Soon we will be learning how to make delicious healthy meals like a fruit salad.

Outdoor Learning

As the sun is shining on us now, we have been investigating shadows! We then completed an Art activity to draw and sketch a shadow that was reflecting from an object.

As always, we are using our team work skills to make the most amazing dens we can!

Numeracy and Mathematics

We have become super confident in being able to partition two digit numbers into tens and ones!

Now our addition and subtraction skills have become advanced, we are now able to make complex number bonds which have huge numbers!

We have also been practicing to make symmetrical patterns using different loose parts.

We are easily able to identify a 1/2 as a fraction and know two halves make a whole. Therefore, we have been learning about quarters!

Within the areas, we have the opportunity to explore lots of different areas of Maths. Here we are sorting days of the week into the correct order and months of the year.

Literacy

We have been practicing when to use a full stop correctly as quite often we are placing them in the wrong place. We are continuing to get better at this!

We are now able to understand the purpose of a speech bubble. We were using our imaginations to create a context within the speech bubbles for the different characters.

We always use our imagination to inform our writing too! This helps us add in more detail and information within our stories.

As we have become confident in identifying different phonemes and alternative sounds, we are beginning to increase our fluency within reading. We were reading a different book each and then writing a book review about it.

We can’t believe school is about to end! We will be continuing to work extremely hard before the end of term!
