Friday 16th December

What a busy week!! We started this week focusing on our communication skills and discussing the difference between hearing and actively listening. In pairs we looked at different ways to communicate with each other.

In PE we continued with our Crookfur Learning Leaders work and planned and organised activities for younger children considering how we shared instructions and information. We agreed that clear, enthusiastic and relevant information helped to make an activity run more smoothly.

We are nearing the end of our class novels and this week we looked at the impact of different points of the story. We used a range of technology to support our understanding of the text and the authors choices.

Our numeracy focus this week was Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. We looked at the different ways we might use these skills in real life, in particular linking percentages with sales.

Our class advent calendar has brought lots of fun and laughter in the class this week as we head in to our final week of school in 2022.

Friday 2nd December

We started this week continuing our ‘Crookfur Learning Leaders’ activities. In groups we were given a set of materials and we needed to plan activities for our groups and others to take part in.

It was difficult at first to work with each other and listen to ideas but we quickly started working together. We needed to compromise.

For Road Safety week we planned out Safe Streets for all road users as well as spending time at the woodland to create road safety scenes using mini lego figures and using digital technologies to create perspective in our images.

On Wednesday both classes got together on St Andrews Day to learn some Scottish Country Dancing. At first some of us were worried that we needed to dance with a partner but by the end we were all having so much fun we asked to do it again next week.

We will be sharing more of our Crookfur Learning Leaders work next week.

This week we created our Crookfur Kindness Advent Calendar 2022. Everyday we are announcing the act of kindness via the tannoy, this can be scary for some of us but we are using the opportunity to help develop our leadership skills.

Anti Bullying Week – I am me!

I am Me

By Ananya and Eleanor

This week has been anti-bullying week, and everyone has been very busy with lots of activities! The P7s have been going round younger classes and teaching them about hidden disabilities, like deafness or blindness. The teachers have been

For the P1s and P2s the P7s were teaching them about blindness, for P3s the P7s were teaching them about deafness. The P4s were taught about being an upstander and standing up for what is right. The Primary 7s had a talk with the Campus Cop about Cyber-bullying. The teachers and students have enjoyed the lessons from the P7s and we have learned lots about hidden disabilities and how to stand up to bullying. We have had a great Anti-Bullying week!

We have lots of pictures to come next week to show our lessons!

Week ending 18th November

Hello, Welcome to our blog. This week was a special week because it was Book Week Scotland! In P.E. this week we did gymnastics, and there were 4 different activities. One of them was where you have to vaullt(a type of jump )that you have to run then jump. We were improving our balances and trying to use different equipment to help us.

For book week we all tried to read a little bit more and shared our favourite books and stories. We took part in a book quiz and will complete it next week and find out the results.

For STEM-a-story we had a book called ‘Thing Explainer’ where everyday objects and things were given really obvious names; such as ice cubes being cold water rocks. We had great fun creating our own ‘thing explainers’ and have now displayed them in the classroom. How many of you have been on a boat with wings?

On Friday we shared our ‘Starbooks’ recommendations with adults around the school. We considered who we were sharing the voucher with and recommended books based on their interests, the class they are teaching or the family they have at home.

We finally managed to complete our Bikeability this week when instead of being windy or rainy it was ice cold!! We all worked really hard on our right hand turns and got the opportunity at the end to have a free cycle around where we needed to make sure we were signalling correctly to let everyone know where we were going.

We have finished this week by preparing for Anti-bullying week next week. We are looking forward to presenting our ‘I am me’ lessons to Primary 1-4.

Week ending 11th November

We have been really busy this week and not had a chance to take many photographs. On Monday we returned to Eastwood for our Sports Leader sessions and had a great time before the rain came on. We continued to work on our spooky stories and started to introduce our characters. We completed our stories on Tuesday with Mrs Doyle. They were exceptionally scary and left Mrs Norman quite terrified. In the afternoon we continued working on our numeracy skills.

This week we were organised in to Enterprise groups across Primary 7 and have been working on an enterprise challenge. We can’t wait to share more information with you.

This week with Mrs Hutchinson we were working on our drawing and shading skills and created some fantastic and realistic eyes. You can see our hard work and concentration when working on them.

On Friday we took time to reflect on Remembrance Day, we listened to some information about it at assembly then in the afternoon we looked at the poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’ and created some Remembrance artwork.

It looks like Tia had a great time at Forest Schools this afternoon!!

Welcome back to Primary 7A – October 25th to November 4th

By- Euan, James and Warren

Hello, welcome back to p7a’s blog.

We all returned after our October holiday ready to learn. On the last day before the holiday we got a movie and hot chocolate treat for filling our jar with marbles, we are now aiming for a games afternoon.

We did a bit of gymnastics on Tuesday during PE.We were learning about flexibility and strength and how that can help us in lots of sports.

On Wednesday  we did a tsunami response job interview where we were put into groups and had to make a desicion with options. We had to think about what to do about the tsunami and change our decisions and responses as we went.

On Thursday we had Mrs Hutchitson for art. We were making charcoal drawings for a boy and girl. What was fun in Spanish was learning the months of the years and numbers up to 30 and we learning up to 100 ( in tens ).

On Friday  we brought our bikes to school and went out in the morning for bikeability where we went on the road and practised our safe stops and safe starts and U turns and signals. Thankfully it didn’t rain for the whole session. In the afternoon some of us started creating creepy eye artwork to add to our class display.

When we returned on Monday we went over to Eastwood High school to do P.E we went into the teams we have been working in.There were six teams. One of the teams was football and it was so fun to us all because  Eastwood high school  was so kind to us all and we were so happy to Eastwood.

On Tuesday we were still doing gymnastics but this week we were doing our own balances and showed them to the class. This was very fun because we could do cartwheels then we went up to a table and we did a balance then we jumped off.

On Wednesday and Thursday we had parents’ evening and the house captains were invited to show the parents around, hand out Ipads for QR codes and ask people if they would like to buy a poppy. We completed our creepy eyes and started writing our spooky writing, focusing on the settings.

On Thursday afternoon we completed a ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ maths quiz and MOST of us made it to £1million!

On Friday afternoon we talked about our Primary 7 Enterprise topic and started to gather together our ideas. We can’t wait to share it with everyone.

See you next week

Week ending 14th October – ready for the October break!

What a fantastic start to Primary 7 the class has had. We have all settled well into our routines and the class are working so hard to achieve their targets. I hope that everyone has a great break and enjoys the rest ahead of our busy term ahead. I will see you all on Tuesday 25th October! Mrs Norman

Date – 14th October 2022

By – Luca and Bruce

On Monday morning we went to Eastwood and did our P.E. activities with some of the senior S6’s and the activities were Football, Tennis, Hockey, Rugby, Netball and invasion games. After break we completed our Extreme Earth fact files and they all look great on the wall. Then after that in the afternoon we were in the woodland doing different activities like stick peeling were you use a potato peeler to skin the skin off the stick, another one was when you got to have free time in the woodland were we could climb trees, play in the mud and have fun and the last one was were we used chalk to make angles on the pavement next to the gazebo and also we did knot tying.

Then on Tuesday morning we did some maths, my group the Numeracy Nerds were learning decimal fractions and everyone did daily 10 which is where there are three different levels Bronze, Silver and Gold with each column having a different difficulty Gold being the hardest and Bronze the easiest. We were learning that we can change remainders in dividing to decimals instead. On Tuesday afternoon we looked at Extreme Earth again.

On Wednesday we got our school photos taken with our siblings and ourselves and when that was done we had literacy with Mrs Nasar and in the afternoon we were trying to guess where we were on the Earth by having the class give us clues and try to guess where we were. We need to really listen to each other in order to guess.

On Thursday we had music with Mrs Hutchinson where we were learning songs and then we finished off with some more drama. After that we worked on our comprehension skills and finished looking at Wildfires. We read some survivor stories for people who were in the 2018 California wildfires, we watched videos of people driving through burning roads to escape their homes. It was quite scary.

On Friday morning Mrs Norman was out with Primary 7B for Bikeability so Mrs Allan worked on Percentages with us. It was fun and we had a domino game. Then Mr Eadie took us to the hall for some netball, Jessica and Beth helped to umpire the games.

In the afternoon we had our movie reward afternoon where we got to watch a movie and have some hot chocolate and a biscuit.

Have a great holiday!!!

Week ending 7th October

On Monday we went to high school with the S6 for P.E. and it was very fun and there were different groups with different people. When we were there were 6 different groups : invasion games, football, netball, hockey, soft tennis and rugby.

On Tuesday we played maths games in the hall we had hoops. there were answers in all of them you ran into one and they called out a question if you were in the hoop with the answer your out. After that we did maths. My group was learning about adding decimals. It was fun. We wrote about natural disasters and wrote a fact file.

On Wednesday Mrs. Slorach and Mr. Flood came in to see what we were up to. We were learning about maths while they were here we were adding decimals and fractions. We also played some different maths games focusing on multiplication and place value.

On Thursday we played a game and we had to go round the alphabet and we had to name something you’d bring with you if you were stuck in a hurricane. It was tricky to remember.

On Friday morning we were meant to do bikeability but it was cancelled because it was too windy so to make up for it we read our class novels for a bit then we did painting about an artist named Claude Monet. In the afternoon we were catching up on the work that needed to be finished and making safety posters for Natural Disasters.
