Week ending 24th March

This week has been very busy for Primary 7 as we head in to the last week of term.

Yesterday our netball team celebrated winning the East Renfrewshire finals, well done to the players from both Primary 7 classes.

We have been learning about Anderson shelters in our social studies topic and asked to create our own versions. They are almost finished and looking great.

We went to Eastwood for our last week of PE where we got to try hockey and rugby. We had a lot of fun and showed some promising talent.

In our writing we are looking at editing and redrafting. We looked at what that entailed and started working on some of our favourite pieces of writing from the year.

In drama with Mrs Hutchinson we continued to work on our improvisation skills ahead of auditions for our school show next week.

In numeracy we have been looking at data handling and using he information to create a clear picture. We are extending our knowledge to look at statistics with pie charts and spreed sheets.

Hello and welcome to our blog post! We hope you enjoy reading!

On Monday morning we went to the MUGA at Eastwood to play different sports! Half the class were playing netball and the other half were playing rugby. It was really fun and energising and we all enjoyed it, though the weather was very cold! After that we did some religious education about Humanism. It was really interesting to learn about humanist beliefs and traits. Here are a few things you should know about it:

  1.  Humanists do not believe in a god, they believe in the faith of humanity and science.
  2. They make decisions based on empathy and concern for human beings, animals and the earth.
  3. Humanism is A joyous alternative to religions that believe in a supernatural god and life in a hereafter”.

On Tuesday, we had indoor P.E. As it was Pi day (3.14 as the date in America), it was all things pi(e)! We played lots of games using a parachute, such as Fruit Salad (but pie flavours instead), Shark Attack, games with a beanbag, and Washing Machine. It was so fun! After that, for writing, we wrote letters from our class novel Remembrance from one character to another. For maths, we used 3.14159265358979323846 from pi to make different things, such as using 3 beads, then 1 bead, then 4 beads on a pipe cleaner to make a bracelet. On squared paper, we coloured 3 boxes, then 1 box, then 4 boxes and so on to create a city! Pi day was very fun!

On Wednesday, we did maths (fractions and negative numbers) and literacy (comprehension and spelling) as usual, but for social studies we learned about rationing and the Blitz. We did different activities, such as making mind maps and creating a meal using rationed foods in our jotters. In a few weeks we will be doing some cooking!

On Thursday, we had Mrs Hutchison and did Spanish, then learnt a song from our new P7 show called ‘What’s the Crime Mr.Wolf?’ The song was called ‘The Wildest Song’. We are excited to do more! After that, we did maths, which was mixed numbers and fractions for the Numeracy Nerds.Later, we used the Chromebooks and searched up different recipes for cooking in a few weeks. Some popular choices were: Scones, Eggless Pancakes and Hot Cross Buns.

On Friday, we did maths in the morning, and we were doing some problem solving and we were learning fractions and other concepts. After break we went to assembly and watched a marvellous dance done by Miss.Lamb’s dancing group! Later, we learnt more about Remembrance and Humanism. We hope you have a great weekend! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Hello, welcome to this week’s blog. This week we have been doing lots of fun stuff and we hope you enjoy us telling you all about it!

On Monday we were focusing on our fitness levels. We were put into teams and ran up and down multiple times by sprinting.

On Tuesday we did P.E. outside .We did Floor is Lava and the activities were throwing a ball back and forward, throwing a ball round in a circle and we threw bean bags in hoops. Since it was pancake day we did a pancake race.

On Wednesday we read more about our book called Remembrance after we did literacy on it. After break we did maths. It was about negative numbers and different kinds of stuff. I found this more challenging than I thought.

On Thursday we did art in the morning however some people didn’t because they got picked for the football festival. The players picked went to a football tournament at Barrhead High school. Crookfur had to play 5 different games against Mearns, Carlibar, St Johns and some others. Overall we did well.

On Friday, Mrs Hobson came in until lunch while she was here. We finished our picture book for the p1/2 next week. Once we were finished we cut out our artwork from yesterday and we finished by doing some science in the afternoon.

Week ending 17th February and 10th February

We have had a busy two weeks with a well deserved rest in between.

Last week we started creating books for the infants so we can read them on World Book Day. We are creating characters and stories that showcase our writing skills.

We have continued reading ‘Remembrance’ in class and we are learning more and more about World War One. The book is set in Scotland so we are learning about what life would have been like for young children in Scotland. We discussed the changing roles and perceptions of women during the time period and how they were asked to step in to jobs they were previously thought of as too weak for.

We created our own War soldiers, focusing on the tension and sadness in their eyes. We used collage and carbon pencils to create our images.

With Mrs Hutchinson we continued to develop our clay skills by creating pots using different techniques.

In Science we looked at the skeleton and how it supports our bodies to stand up. We worked in groups to create our own structure out of recycled paper to create a support for a ball. Some ideas were more successful than others!

On Monday we had P.E, we were working on fitness, since we are doing fitness for P.E we did relay races focusing on pacing and stamina. After break we did free choice writing using a picture we got from Mrs Norman to try to include that in our writing. In the afternoon, we were finishing off some TJ3a work.

On Tuesday we did P.E in the hall, we were doing the Bleep Test where normally you have to run to the other side of the room before the beep, each round it got faster than the last. After break, we were doing Black Beauty comprehension with Mrs Norman and Mrs Nasar. Then after lunch for maths, we used compasses to make circles and learned about radius and diameter.

On Wednesday we were using our phones to calculate the PI (not the food) by getting the circumference and dividing it by the diameter and we had to do it 5 times. Trying to get PI which is 3.14159 and more it goes on for infinite. Then after break we did literacy and we were answering questions based on grammar by putting capital letters at the start of sentences and more. After lunch we were doing our world war 1 time lines and taking notes for the dates on our time lines.

On Thursday, in the morning we had our Standard I’s Test (literacy), we were doing the reading part of the test. The part 1 of the comprehension was escape from Vesuvius and part 2 was about Explosive Volcanoes. We continued to finish it after break as well, since everyone was working so hard in the morning Mrs Norman decided to let us either colour, draw, finish our WW1 timelines, build our own cars or design our own cars with the Chromebook using Tinkercad for the rest of the afternoon.

On Friday we started with maths and we were learning about how to figure out the area of compound shapes. After break we had Mrs Lochlon and we were doing mental maths just before assembly. At assembly we started off with our school song, then we had some visitors from the Baptist Church who talked about friendship on what is and isn’t a good friend. After lunch we were doing social studies, we were learning about the trenches.

We hope you enjoyed this blog, come back next week to read another amazing blog! Have a good weekend!

Week beginning 23rd January

On Monday we worked on our fitness in the MUGA and worked on pacing ourselves when running for a long time.

When looking at adding and subtracting fractions we challenged ourselves by looking at improper fractions and looking at simplifying fractions. We used counters to help visualise the problem.

We recapped the properties of 3D shapes and used our knot tying skills to create a range of complex 3D shapes.

Well done to Emilia for passing your dance exams!!

We worked with clay with Mrs Hutchinson, we can’t wait to finish them.

On Friday afternoon we looked at the body and learned about the different organs and what their functions were.

Welcome to 2023

Welcome back to Primary 7A.

We all returned to school ready to learn and focused on making positive choices throughout the year. On our first days back we focused on believing in ourselves and setting achievable targets.

We enjoyed reading ‘The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse’, then watching the animation video. We created our own artwork in the style of the author and used an animation website to turn our drawings in to animations.

As we enter in to a new term we have been focusing on creating texts using credible sources. As well as accessing different sites to gather our information we have been using the website Canva to make it appealing and organised. Our next steps in this area are to look at the information we are gathering and use it to create our own words. We are very proud of the work we created in writing this week and we have displayed it in the classroom.
