Over the last couple of weeks, P6 have been treated to three amazing visitors. As you know the final IDL focus for the class was exploring music and culture. We had three volunteers who visited the classes to deliver engaging and interactive sessions about how they use music in their careers.  A big thank you to Melody (ex-pupil), Aria’s dad and Abi’s dad!

This week we continued with our final IDL focus of P6: music and culture. The aim of this IDL focus is to learn about how music has shaped different cultures and changed throughout history. The pupils will form a band next week then work towards creating a song that highlights something that is important to them. Some learners have already spoken about creating a song about looking after the planet or children’s rights.

The first GarageBand lesson was focused on exploring the features and using the software for the first time. We ended the day with listening to each others songs and having a dance party!

This week in P6B we learned a new maths game whilst completing our weekly problem solving challenge. Everyone enjoyed playing 59-er and some learners chose to do it during maths choice time. They have even started adapting it to add additional challenge!

This week in P6B we have been focusing on consolidating our knowledge of fractions and learning about how we learn new mathematical concepts. We spoke about the concrete, pictorial, abstract process and applied it whilst solving problems involving fractions.

This week in P6b the learners started focusing on athletics within P.E. They will track their performance over the next few weeks with the goal of creating their own fitness stations for others to try out.

Today we had our culture celebration day. It was lovely to see so many pupils wearing clothing that represents their culture. Thank you to Ibrahim’s mum and sister for giving up their time and teaching the class how to make samosas, mango lassi and churros.

This week in P6b we have been enjoying the spring weather and have taken our learning outdoors. On Tuesday, the learners put their playzone leadership training sessions into practice by leading a PE session with P2c. Then we took our maths learning outdoors to create a range of games, such as number relay races, calculation tig and continued our learning about algebraic expressions by solving expressions using chalk.

The learners also received a special visit from a parent volunteer who spoke about his job as a civil engineer and the water purification process. Thank you Mr McDonald!

This week in P6b we continued developing our knowledge and skills when using pointillism in art. The learners applied their skills and created their own pieces of art. They also created an explanation text about pointillism and its’ founder, Georges Seuret during this week’s writing lesson.

Friday 21st March 2025

This week in P6b we have been learning about pointillism. We started a two week art and design inquiry, which will focus on investigating how pattern and colour is used within pointillism. This week the learners tried out the technique whilst consolidating their knowledge of the colour wheel.

The part that the learners found the most challenging was not being able to use a pallet to mix and combining the small dots to change the colours. Next week’s blog post will showcase some of the art work that was created.

This week in P6b we have had various opportunities to apply our problem solving skills within different areas of numeracy and maths. We have been working hard to learning about the problem solving process, as well as the various strategies. This week we combined these skills with our knowledge of 3D shapes and when we were exploring patterns.
