P6b had a busy but exciting first week back after the October break.

Natural Disasters

This week was our final week learning about tornadoes through our Natural Disasters IDL topic. We finished off our topic assessments, which focused on combining the scratch coding skills we have been developing and our new knowledge of tornadoes. Miss Daly enjoyed viewing these when each pair presented their final animation. We will finish the presentations next week.

When visiting the school during your parents evening appointment, please have a look at our corridor display which showcases some of our learning!

This week in P6B we were visited by the Eastwood Science Ambassadors.

The Eastwood Science Ambassadors came to our classroom and we learned about space with them.  They taught us about the different planets in the solar system.  At the end of the lesson we made our own planet and word search. – H

With our shoulder partner, we swapped the word searches we created and tried to solve them. – R

We made our own planets that aren’t in the solar system.  We could choose a theme and it was fun! – L

The ambassadors showed us a short video about the planets, the stars and the whole universe. They also taught us about the size of the planets and light years. – I

We also watched a video about the black hole. I enjoyed the video because I didn’t know there were so many of them in space. – A

Some of the class showcased their maths learning. They have been learning about directions and angles.  They created a map with kapla then wrote directions using mathematical vocabulary.

In maths, we were learning about perimeter. But before we moved on to area and perimeter we practiced directions by creating our own worlds in kapla.  We also assessed our knowledge of angles. – F
