This week we have been celebrating Maths Week!

Book of the Week: Fractions in Disguise

This week in honour of our book we made a structure to display fractions with Kapla.  Some groups made a gallery, cafe, pizza shop, museum, maze and bakery. – L

This week we read Fractions in Disguise, a book all about simplifying fractions. – J

I played snakes and ladders with fractions. You had to solve the fraction cards and make up the mystery word. – F

Mondrian Inspired Art

We used the place value blocks for hundreds, tens and units. We traced around them to create an art piece.  For example if you traced around 2 100 blocks, 1 ten block and 3 units blocks then it would illustrate 213. – S

Piet Mondrian was a Dutch artist who created a new art style that uses primary colours and black and white shades.  He used lots of geometric shapes, such as squares and rectangles. – H

Inspired by Piet Mondrian we made an art piece where we used different place value blocks. We drew around them to show a number then coloured each shape a different colour.  Then we walked around the class to work out the mystery number of each piece of art. – R
