Primary 5/6: Week Beginning 05/06/23

Mr Atkinson’s comment:

This week the primary 5 pupils were very excited to meet their future P1 buddies and give them the letters they wrote! The P6 children enjoyed listening to the author, Martin Stewart. Next week is going to be packed with some fantastic events including the Celebration of Achievement and Pop UK which you will hopefully hear about at home. Despite the heat the class has done a fantastic job with watering the courtyard plants and pocket garden. Also thank you for all the birthday messages!

Literacy and English

Eva – We wrote outdoor themed poems using alliteration, senses and we were challenged to write them from the perspective of the animal, object or thing.

John – During our comprehension lesson we used our skimming and scanning skills to find information to help us find evidence in the text to answer questions.

Numeracy and Maths

Heena – The primary 6 children have been adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals and using this knowledge to solve word problems.

Ruairidh – The primary 5 pupils have been learning how to record time in both the 12 and 24 hours format and calculate durations.

Health and Wellbeing

Harley – On Thursday we took part in relay races with Miss Daly’s class and in teams we ran around the school.

Maya – We have been learning how to improve our long jump and triple jump technique during our P.E. session on Monday.

IDL – Natural Disasters

Chloe – This week Mr Atkinson gave us the scenario of responding to a natural disaster of our choice. We worked in groups to form an emergency relief team and then we were tasked to create an early warning system by using the Microbits. Some of us included sounds, animations and the shake function to detect motion. We also used Tinkercad to design natural disaster-proof buildings and created presentations on what to do if our natural disaster occurred. We then presented to Mr Atkinson our emergency relief plan.

Outdoor Learning & John Muir

Emma – We searched the woodland area in the school to find an item to sketch and to base our poems on. We then drew the object by using our knowledge of shading and different types of lines.
