A Very Busy Fortnight in June

Pond Dipping

A couple of weeks ago we went pond dipping for our RSPB Award and it was really fun. We found lots of different insects in the pond.

Heartstart

During Heartstart we were learning how to put people into the recovery position. We tried it out on each other and it was fun! We also learned what to do if someone was having a heart attack. You would carefully sit them down and lean them against something, making sure that they were comfy and that they had their legs bent. You would dial 999 and ask for an ambulance.

Health Week

We were playing games during netball. First we had to get into teams and we had to pass the ball around and get the ball to the other team’s box and do a touch down. If the other team touched you when you had the ball then your team lost a life. We were also working on our passing skills. We were trying to see who could pass the fastest. Finally, we played a game called ‘The Golden Child’ which we all really enjoyed.

Sports Day

Today we had sports day in the morning and we did different stations. Some of the stations were an obstacle course, space hoppers, football and bean bag throwing.

After the stations, we did races. We were doing it in houses, starting with P4 Fleming boys. After our races there were races for the parents.

The no name blog 20.5.22

This week P4/5 have been continuing to do the Daily Mile and have been cycling throughout the day as part of our fundraising efforts for Ukraine. We have currently cycled and ran over 402 miles, which is amazing!! We are over half way to meeting our target J

Today during PE, we were playing rounders and it was lots of fun.

In maths, Flawless Fractions and Dedicated Decimals have been doing problem solving tasks. We had to figure out the age of a Granny and the clues were that 2 digits added to 10, if you reserve the digits it would be the Dad’s age and there was a 36 year difference between the ages. It was fun but challenging trying to solve the problem.

Marvellous Multipliers have been learning their 7 times table. They have played lots of games like Hit the Button – we were in two teams and whoever hit the correct answer first got a point for their team, we really enjoyed playing it. They have been using their workbooks. We also did some problem solving and we had to figure out how many Zaps and Zonks were there. The Zaps had 3 horns and the Zonks had 2 horns, we were told there were 26 horns altogether and 10 monsters.

In Spanish, P5 were solving problems all about the months of the year. They were then able to play different Spanish games on the chromebooks. We have a section in our Google Classroom where we can revise some of our Spanish skills by playing various games.

We are very proud that we have achieved our Silver RSPB Wild Challenge Award, we are just uploading our evidence to show that we have achieved this award and are hoping it will be accepted.

In writing, we have been working on our posters and banners for our fundraising. They are very informative and eye catching. We also wrote a reflective piece of writing for example our first day of school. We had to think about how we felt and how we feel now.

In Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about the effects of alcohol. If you have too much alcohol it can make your oesophagus bleed. If you haven’t consumed alcohol roughly in the last 15 hours you are considered sober.

Retelling Our Wonderful Week in Our Round-Up

At assembly today the Eco committee told us about looking after the school. – Joshua

The Eco committee are going be having a close look in the playground for any rubbish to select which playground is the tidiest. – Maddie

Today, we played in the woodland and enjoyed ourselves. Lily, Sophie, Maddie, Rosie and I played cavemen and cave woman. Alexander played as well and was a person from the future. – Joshua

In the woodland, I was climbing the tree and today I managed to stand up and hold the branch beside me for the first time and managed to get myself onto new branches. I am feeling very proud of myself. – Olivia-Rose

Amy and I found an upside down shed which was like a box. We made our house out of it. We found lots of things and put it in to make chairs, plates with food on them and decking and it was very very wobbly. Next time we could move the decking more towards the hill to try and make it more secure. Amy also brought her teddy,  Olly and we pretended he was our child. – Eilidh

On Monday, we started painting the Mandala patterns onto our glass jars. We won’t tell you what it’s for yet…it’s a SURPRISE! -Ellis

A Tranquil Day of Terrific Tree-Tastic Planting

On Thursday P4/5 went to Leslie Field, next to Leslie Wood near Eastwood High School. – Joshua

We planted trees there and we needed to make a hashtag symbol in the ground with a shovel and it was quite hard. – Subhan

We had to push the spade down and tilt it on the last cut to take out the middle block of the earth and grass so that we could plant the tree in there. – Eilidh

We could choose if we wanted to plant Birch Trees or Oak Trees. – Matthew

After we planted the tree, we would put a biodegradable mulch mat around it. – Ellis

We put the mulch mat around it so all the grass and flowers underneath don’t get enough light so that they would die and the tree would get all the nutrients from the soil. It also helps so that you don’t stand on the trees. – Lily-Anne

We hammered pegs into the mulch mat at the corners to stop the mat from blowing away. – Olivia-Rose

22.4.22 – Arjun’s Amazing Blog

In maths, the Dedicated Decimals and the Flawless Fractions have been learning about time. We have been learning how to read different timetables and have been learning how to calculate time durations. It has been fun and challenging! ~ Arjun

The Marvellous Multipliers were playing a relay race during maths to help them with their division work. It was fun! ~ Olivia-Rose

In Literacy we have been learning about fact and opinion. We had to read a text and answer questions about facts and opinions. A fact is when something is true/you can prove it and an opinion is what you prefer/think. ~ Arjun

On Wednesday we were creating mandalas in Art. Throughout the next few weeks we are going to build them up because we are raising awareness about the war in Ukraine. ~ Ellis

On Thursday we were doing gymnastics with Mr McMillan. There were three stations. A springboard where you had to jump over a horse, balance benches where you had to balance in the middle of an upside down bench and the last station was mats were you had to do a shoulder stand, forward roll or a cartwheel. ~ Sam

Today, during assembly the Easter Craft competition winners were announced. Ellis, Amy and I all won a certificate. Ellis won the ‘funniest’ award, Amy won the overall Stevenson House award and I won the overall Fleming House award. ~ Finn

We are very proud of Finn, Amy and Ellis!

In Social Studies we are going to be looking at business enterprise. We are hoping that we will be able to create our own charity for Ukraine and raise some money to help.~ Eilidh

P4 watched a video which told us what to do if there is an emergency. The first thing you would do to help the person would be to check for danger, secondly you would see if the person could respond to you, if they don’t then you would maybe have to shout/call for help. You would then check to see if the person was breathing. We have started our Heart Start training! ~ Maddie

In PE we were doing a relay race around the muga and there were different obstacles that we had to pass. The first one was jumping over three hurdles, then the next person had to do a long jump and then the other person had to run back to the start point. ~ Arjun

We are very proud that we have achieved our Bronze Wild Challenge Award and we are hoping that our certificates will arrive next week.

Today is Mrs Ferguson’s birthday and we hope she has a lovely weekend celebrating!

Last Week of Term

Today is our last week before the Easter holidays so we have been doing some arty Easter activities! We made a bonnet out of biscuits, marshmallows and icing and made Easter cards with Easter poems inside. – Arjun

In P.E. we did relay races and Tic Tac Toe. To play the game we had to run up to the hula hoops and place a bean bag in the hoop and run back. – Matthew

For P.E. today (Friday), we did the Daily Mile. We started in the P7 playground and ran down the bottom of the hill. We went down and back 3.5 times. We used Trundle Wheels to measure how many metres long the playground is and it was 234 m one way. One mile is 1609 m so we then managed to work out how many times we had to run round the playground. – Amy

In Maths we created our own games linked to all the maths topics we focused on this term. I enjoyed it because I could colour them in and work with my friends. – Nicole

This week we finished our Science topic on Inheritance. We looked at creating our own monsters called Reebops. We had to draw a mum and dad monster and then take characteristics from both the mum and dad to create the baby.  – Ellis

To end our Inheritance topic we played a Kahoot quiz and it was really fun! – Arjun

Mrs Ferguson showed us her family tree. We looked back at 4 generations and noticed that quite a few people had the same first name. In the family tree we also noticed that the woman keeps her maiden name rather than shows the married name.

P4/5, you have worked so hard this term. I hope you have a well deserved break. Enjoy the holidays everyone! – Mrs Ferguson

An Amazing Week at School

On Monday, in Science we were learning about dominant and recessive alleles. There are 2 alleles on a gene. – Ellis

To represent the alleles, you can choose any letter that you want. For hair colour you could have a capital H to represent the dominant gene and lowercase h to represent the recessive gene. If you had Hh or HH that would be the dominant gene and hh would be recessive. – Isaac

We watched a video on the 10 rarest eye colours. Some of them I couldn’t even believe were real like black, silver and red eyes! Someone in our class had the rarest eye colour, called Central Heterochromia. – Alexander

Today was P5’s last day doing P.E. at E.H.S. We played a giant game of rounders (x2) and it was a competition between 4 teams. We named our teams: Squidward Squad, The Crunchy Croissants, The Crusty Crab and Chicken Turkey. – Lily-Anne

Super Science Week

This week was science week. We watched a video on a lamb giving birth and we had a sheet where we labelled different parts of the sheep’s body. – Ellis

I learned that sheep eat grass and they can do so because they have 4 stomachs to help them digest it. – Olivia-Rose

I learned that when sheep give birth the lamb needs to have 2 feet out first so that the lamb can be pulled out. – Lily-Anne

When the lamb comes out, it’s belly button has to be sprayed with iodine so that it doesn’t get infected. We also watched a video on cows and we had to label different parts of the body of the cow which the farmer needs to check to make sure the cow is healthy.  To check the cow’s temperature you need to stick a thermometer inside the cow’s bottom. – Arjun

After the cow poos you need to do the squish test.  To do this, stand on the poo and if it squishes, it is healthy. – Isaac

We did tests on ourselves to see if we were healthy. We checked our pulses, breathing rate and skin pinching. – Matthew

Today, we focused on optical illusions. Optical illusions are patterned pictures which can trick your mind. – Sophie

Have a look at our photos of our illusions!

Fours’ and Fives’ Fun Fantastic Fabulous Friendly Friendships About Forgiveness with Mrs Ferguson

Today, just before lunch we were doing Health and Well-being. We were learning about forgiveness. We discussed that you should forgive people because we don’t want to fight anyone or argue. After our discussion we each made a friendship poster to collate as a booklet. I was focusing on forgiveness. – Isaac

The other categories for our booklet were: Respect, Kindness, Quality Over Quantity, Support, Share and Play. I focused on quality over quantity. I remember mentioning what a fake and real friend were. – Alexander

For our booklet, I was focusing on Sharing. I wrote about how we should always share our friends so that you have more friends and then nobody is left out. – Eilidh

We are going to put our friendship booklets outside in all the playgrounds so that everybody can read it. – Ellis

We want everyone to read it so that everyone can play together, make up if fallen out and be friends again. – Subhan
