This week in P2b we have been very busy learning about Fairtrade Fortnight.

Global Goals

We spent time discussing the Global Goals and how Fairtrade helps farmers earn fair wages. The learners then created an action plan and a display showcasing all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Fairtrade Quiz

The learners participated in a Fairtrade quiz with Miss Ralston.

Trolley Challenge

The learners showcased their knowledge of Fairtrade products and the famous Fairtrade logo when completing the Trolley Challenge!

FairAware Award

At this week’s assembly, some of the pupils from P5/6 and P6 delivered a presentation all about Fairtrade. They discussed what they have been learning about in class and the importance of supporting Fairtrade products. Then Mr Atkinson announced that the school has been awarded the FairAware Fairtrade Award for everyone’s hard work at raising awareness for Fairtrade. Well done everyone!

This week P2b have continued to develop their knowledge and skills. However, we have had an extra special focus this week… World Book Day! This week’s blog will highlight everything we have been doing to spread the joy of reading.

 

Julia Donaldson

Each stage was asked to explore a different author this week. Primary 2’s author was Julia Donaldson. The learners have had lots of different opportunities to explore her lovely stories throughout the week, including our Julia Donaldson jigsaw project.

 

The Masked Reader

The learners have enjoyed watching two Masked Reader videos each day. They used the clues to try to work out who was behind each mask. Pop over to the Twitter page to see the videos!

 

P2 Reading Buddies

Some of the learners have the opportunity to take part in the P2/5 Reading Buddies programme this term. On Thursday, the Big Buddies planned a special session for World Book Day. The P2’s enjoyed hearing about the P5’s favourite books and listening to them read.

 

P7 Author Session

On Friday afternoon, we were invited to Mrs Allan’s class to hear some amazing books and stories that the P7 pupils created. Thank you to the P7’s and their teachers for all their hard work organising this special treat for the classes.

This week in P2b we have been learning about…

 

Maths – Length

I was measuring the penguin with a ruler. – H.

I built a village then I used a metre stick to measure the length. – A.

 

Our Structures

We worked together to make a town. It was so big that we had to move the tables. – A.

 

Our New Carpet

This week my class is getting a new carpet so we had to move to the Science Lab. – J.

This week I got a new carpet and we got to go to the Science Room. We played ‘Heads Down Thumbs Up’. – L.

 

P.E.

We jumped in a hoop and played rock, paper, scissors – it was fun. – A

 

World Thinking Day

On World Thinking Day I wore my Rainbows uniform to school. I like Rainbows because it is fun. – F.

I wore my Beavers clothes to school on World Thinking Day. I play games and earn badges at Beavers. – T.

Over the last couple of weeks in P2b we have been learning about…

Numeracy

Me and my friends have been playing darts. When we hit numbers we then add them together. Whoever gets the highest score wins the round. I have hit 300 twice before! – R

When I am playing darts I am using my addition skills and counting. We each try to see how high we can make our score. – O

We have been learning about fractions. I know about halves and quarters. – P

Our Structures

We worked together to build lots of different buildings. I built a music box this week. – M

I made a tree house. I used the hammer in woodwork and I worked with Mrs Howie. I loved it! – N

Our Local Community

We have been learning about the Global Goals and the difference between needs and wants. This will help us have a better understanding of the needs and wants of our community and support our project.

Committees

This week our P2b representatives attended their committee meetings and reported back to the class. We are very proud of the positive changes they are making in our school community.

This week in P2B we have been learning about…

Languages Week Scotland

We learned how to say head, shoulders, knees and toes in French. – H

We sang a song about when our birthday is. You have to jump into the circle when it’s your birthday month. The song is called Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire? – A

14 different languages are spoken in the school. – B

People Who Help Us – Vet Corner

We were helping the animals because they were hurt. I was the vet who does the xrays. – B

We have been learning about adults that we can trust when we need help. – A

We were helping the animals to make them feel better. I was a customer. – O

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

An adjective is a describing word. I used adjectives to describe Charlie from the book and the movie. – O

Charlie is very lucky and we learned in chapter 10 that he got the golden ticket. – L

Our Structures

This week I built some dolls houses. I added furniture for the dolls. – P

We made a vehicle building. It is a place for all the vehicles to live. It started small on Monday but now it is very big. – Z

I worked with Z to build my building. We built a building for the future. It is a building where humans can live in the future. – N

Maths

We have been counting to 50 and practised odds and evens. We have been using part-whole models to help us with our calculations. I tried my hardest and I like it! – O

I have been exploring numbers from 0 to 100. I really like it too! – A

Working Cooperatively

I was teaching the class how to play a new game called Fruit Salad. People were listening well to me. – Rory

My favourite part of my building is the diamond at the top because it stays up. – N

I wrote a story that is set in the forest and is about a fairy and a monster. – A
