Friday 15th February 2019 P2B Class Blog

In P.E with the high school teachers we have been developing our skills of throwing and catching. We played a game where we had to pass the ball to the player in the hoop without them dropping it and if they caught it we got a point.

In P.E with Mr. McMillan we were doing athletics. We have been working on our throwing skills (javelin and shot put), running and jumping (hurdles), jumping (long jump) and balancing (obstacle course). We were recording our scores and times and writing these in a table.

In Science we have started a new topic about forces. We have been carrying out experiments on toys to see what type of motion they made and if they needed pushed or pulled or both. The motions were zig-zag, circular, up and down or side to side.

In literacy and english we have been writing a letter to the care home.  We were inviting them to a Scottish afternoon that we are going to have in Primary 2 and we would like them to come as our guests.

In literacy and english we have been reading non-fiction stories.  We have been gathering information and sorting them under headings (making notes).

In maths and numeracy the hexagons have been using vertical calculations to carry and exchange, the squares have been working onnumbers up to 15, the triangles have been dooing family facts with addition and subraction and the circles have been exploring vertical calculations.

We have also been learning the Jelly Piece Song!

P2a Friday 7th February.

We have learned a new Scottish dance called the Canadian barn dance. – A.T

 

We wrote our spelling words in slime. – O.B

 

We made skyscrapers from our Scotland topic during free play. K.F

 

We have been making Scottish leaflets in literacy. – H.B

 

On 8th February we won’t be at school. – E.T

 

In numeracy we were using cups and a ball, like in bowling, for subtraction to 20. – L.H

 

We played a guess the weather game in French and we dressed up to show the weather. – M.M

 

The squares learned about am and pm in maths this week. –R.C

Happy Burns’ Day from P2a

We have been learning about Robert Burns because it is Burns’ Day (AT).

Robert Burns is sometimes called Rabbie (SD).

He died when he was 37 (ZM)

On Burns’ Night we eat haggis, neeps and tatties (HR)

Robert Burns wrote poems (JM)

He became more famous when he died (DB).

He lived on a farm (OB).

Robert Burns was poor (MK).

 

Inspired by Burns. we wrote in Scots about a “wee dug” (JR). We learned new Scots vocabulary like….

Ma wee dug is bonnie. Ma wee dug is a laddie. Ma wee dug gets boggin rinning aboot in the gairden!

A jeely piece is a sandwich with jam in it (GB) People used to throw it off a flat to their kids (CM).

We made skyscraper towers too.

Class Blog P2B Friday 7th February 2019

In P.E we have been doing athletics with Mr. McMillan.  We have been working on different skills; jumping, throwing, balancing, hopping and skipping.  With the high school P.E teacher we playing throwing and moving games.

In language we have all started to identify features of non-fiction books.  Each group read a non-fiction book, discussed the features of te book and then used the book to find certain information.  In writing this week we were writing a letter to the Loch Ness Monster.  We learnt about the features of a letter and we included these in our own letter.  We thought about questions we would like to ask Nessie and put these in the letter too.

In ICT we have been finishing off our Powerpoints which are all about ourselves.

In maths the tringles have been counting up in tens, the circles have been doing addition and subtraction to 15, the squares have been doing family facts, the hexagons have been working on vertical calculations (addition and subtraction).

In R.M.E we were learning about churches.  We watched a video where the host took us on a tour of a chuch and we learnt about the symbols inside a church and what they represent.

In art we were creating celtic designs by following  pattern

P2B Class Blog Friday 1st February

In French we have been learning how to say the different types of weather.

We had a treat this week, we got to watch the dress rehearsal of the Primary 4’s show. It was really good and everybody said their parts clearly.

In P.E we have been learning athletics. We have been working on our throwing, jumping and skipping skills. We had skipping stations, long jump, javelin, shot put, hurdles and a balance and hoping obstacle course. With the high school teachers we were doing dance.

In literacy and English we were writing a description in Scots language of ‘My wee dug’. We described our dog and what it likes to do. In reading we have been learning how to answer literal questions.

In maths the hexagons have been learning to round numbers to the nearest and estimate the answer. The squares have been learning numbers up to a hundred and tens and units. The triangles have been learning about greater than and less than and equals. The circles have been working on addition to 15 and finding the missing number in a calculation.

In science we started learning about forces. We went around the classroom and experimental with different games and activities and discussed whether we had to push or pull (or both) the objects to make them move. We categorised the items into a Venn diagram.

In music we have been learning the ‘Jelly Piece Song’ as part of our Scottish topic.

In ICT we have been making a Powerpoint all about me. We were working on the family page this week.

In R.M.E we were learning about what is inside and outside the church and what it is used for and represents.

Friday 25th January 2019 P2B

In our topic of Scotland we have been learning about Robert Burns.  Today is Burns day, the 25th January.  We found out what happens at a Burns supper celebration and then created our own menus.

We have also been researching different places in Scotland in groups.  We have been taking notes and creating posters which we will use to present our findings to each other.

In maths and numeracy today we did some pizza problem solving where we had to read statements about who liked what pizza and had to give the each person the correct pizza.

In ICT we have been making a fact book all about ourselves; our family, facts about us etc. 

In R.M.E we were learning about churches and the different parts of a church and what they are used for and represent.

In P.E we have been doing athletics and working on the skills of; running, jumping, throwing, skipping and hopping.

In Health we have been learning about the brain and Dementia.  We learnt about dementia and played some memory games.

In literacy we have been working on answering literal questions.  We read information about Robert Burns and answered questions on his life.  In writing we took notes about Scotland and used these to make a booklet.

In maths and numeracy the hexagons finished their topic on time and have bene learning about rounding and estimating.  The squares have been learning about numbers up to 100.  The triangles have been ordering and sequencing numbers.  The circles have been working with numbers to 15, adding and finding the missing number.

In P2a’s own words….

Super Scotland

This week we made tartan. We used long bits of paper and we went over and under (K.F).

It’s called weaving (E.T).

Our tartan was colourful (Z.M)

We practised our Scottish dancing again. It was amazing. (L.H)

We were learning about boats. Boats were very famous in Glasgow (R.C) Scotland was famous for shipbuilding (M.K).

We made awesome ships out of blocks and cubes. (C.M) People lost their jobs when there were no ships (J.R).

We have been learning about times and hours (J.R)

We have been working on building tens and units (L.H)

We have been working on numbers up to 100 (C.M)

In Maths were have been learning about sequencing numbers (A.D)

Happy New Year from P2a!

 

Reaching for Stars!

To start 2019 we thought about setting targets for the new year.   We used our new skills in repeating line patterns to create our hands and arms and wrote our targets on stars.  It is proudly on display in our classroom to inspire us.  Check back later in the year to see if we reached our stars!

We started this year by writing what we want to do on stars. (O.B)

We used cutting skills and patterns to make our reaching hands (L. H and E. T)

 

New year, new work.

In ICT we have been using the paint program to make pictures. It was amazing (J.B)

We started our Scotland Social Studies topic with Scottish cities and some ceilidh dancing… We found the doh-see-doh quite funny! (M.K)

Friday 11th January 2019 P2B

In P.E with the high school teachers we were playing hand ball. We were learning how to pass the ball to each other before throwing it into a target.

We have started a new topic about Scotland. We wrote down what we already know about Scotland and what we would like to learn about Scotland.

We practiced our handwriting today, with a focus on the letter c and other letters that are formed in the same way (a, g, e, d, o etc.)

In problem solving we had to find the solution to a puzzle where each row and column had to have an even amount of cubes. Arjun and Christopher were the first to solve the puzzle.

In French we have been learning how to say the different types of weather. Here are a few examples; ‘il fait du brouillard’/ ‘it is foggy’, ‘il pleut’/ ‘it is raining’.

Livingstone had their House Reward Afternoon as they were the winning house last term. They watched a movie and had popcorn and juice.

In art we learnt about patterns. We looked at pointillism and created a 2019 calendar based on this technique.

In writing this week we were working on the skill of note taking and we used bullet points to write the key parts of the story ‘The Snowman’.

In science we have been learning about touch which is one of our senses. We focused on our skin and how we sense touch.

In maths the hexagons have been learning how to read the time. , the squares have been comparing numbers using greater than and less than, the triangles have ben learning about numbers to 100 and putting them in the correct order and the circles have been working on addition to 15.

P2B Class Blog Friday 14th December 2018

On Friday at assembly the p4s were telling us about Christmas around the world.  They told us about France, Mexico, Germany, Australia and Britain.  It was a great assembly with lots of songs!

We have been learning about Data Handling in Maths and Numeracy.  We carried out a survey around the school of favourite Christmas songs.  We recorded the number of votes and put them on a bar chart.  We also made a pictogram and a bar graph out of our snacks.  We put them into different groups (sweets, chocolate etc.).  We also sorted foods that we would have in a typical day into a pictogram under different categories (Protein, Carbohydrates etc.).

In ICT we have been making Christmas cards on paint.  We created 3D shapes to make presents.

In language we have been answering literal questions on texts.  We also created acrostic Christmas poems.

In P.E we were working in teams and played a variety of games.  With Mr. McMillan we did throwing and catching games and had a House boccia tournament.
