Hello from our busy learners!

Hello!

It has been a busy couple of weeks in Primary 4a! In writing, we have been building on our skills of writing a persuasive letter. This week, our persuasive letter focused on pigs! We were learning about therapy animals and came up with persuasive reasons that our school needs a therapy pig. Here are some of the reasons we came up with:

  • Therapy pigs are good for anxiety.
  • Working with therapy pigs can help to keep you relaxed.
  • Therapy pigs are easy to talk to and you can talk about learning.
  • Therapy pigs can help children to improve their learning.

We think that a therapy pig would be a great addition to our school day!

We have also been continuing with our research on the History of Newton Mearns. We have learned lots of interesting facts that we didn’t already know. For example, Newton Mearns used be a village and there were lots of small shops like grocers, butchers and bakers. A lot of people moved to Newton Mearns because of the dangers of World War Two. Other people moved to Newton Mearns many years ago, to build mansions with the money they made in the city. We also learned that Crookfur Primary was built in 1970 which makes this the 50th year!

Rectangles have been reviewing their knowledge of angles this week in Maths and have been searching for and labelling angles around the classroom. Angles are all around us! Circles have been learning to divide and multiply using 2 digit numbers. We have been solving secret equations around the room, using our UV pens! Triangles have been busy exploring the properties of 3D shapes. We have been looking for 3D shapes in our environment and building 3D shapes to learn more about their properties!
