This week some of our children went to St Ninian’s High School after taking part in a Beekeeper competition. A huge well done and thanks to all of you who submitted an entry! All of the photographs were wonderful and the children enjoyed sharing them with their peers.<\/p>\n

Miss Goldie joined four winners at St Ninian’s, where they met with the young leaders and experienced hands-on, real life beekeeping! Many thanks to Mrs McIlwham and Miss Goldie for supporting this project and to the parents of our winners too, for supporting transport to and from St Ninian’s!<\/p>\n

Following on from the children\u2019s interest in animals we have been exploring and researching what animals eat. The children have been learning about carnivores, omnivores and herbivores and what these terms mean. The children have been organising data by sorting animals into categories based on what they eat. This has led onto discussions about food chains which we will continue to explore further. The children have been researching animals through books, digital technology and group discussions with their peers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This week in the art area the children following their interest in cave paintings have been exploring ancient mark making further. The children have been looking at hieroglyphics and have been attempting to replicate their name using pictorial symbols. Through this\u00a0 the children have been strengthening their letter recognition as they decoded the symbols and made positive attempts to replicate the marks and came up with interpretations of the pictures. This experience was extended through embedding their marks to create surface prints through inks and rollers. The children were able to make connections to their past through this and develop their wider world understanding as they develop their understanding of different cultures.<\/span><\/p>\n

MM \u201cThey didn’t use letters, the pictures told them what they needed to know\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

MM \u201cThey are ancient Egypt, I know that because I’m going where the three kings went, I’m going on a boat\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

RP \u201cIt looks like a pea bed-you grow peas in it\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

SW \u201cIt’s a flag\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

AE \u201cPyramids are in Egypt- my granny and grandad are in Egypt- people made them a long long long time yesterday\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

RF \u201cThey are pyramids built by the Egyptians- I watched an episode on it\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
