March

What a busy month we have had! We were lucky enough to have several visitors come and talk to us about their jobs so a big thank you to these parents.  We had great fun hearing all about what they do to help people, as well as getting to have a go with some props!

We have also been learning about using tally marks and some of us decided to create a zoo and count how many animals we had.

During our visit with Barrhead Fire Station we got to have a go at the hoses, and as well as showing us the tools they use we got to have a seat in the fire engine!

At muddy movers this month we have been looking for signs of Spring. We found some wiggly worms in the mud as well as spotting some daffodils and other small plants beginning to grow. We also looked for fractions within nature- trying to find two halves of natural items.

Wishing everyone a lovely Easter Break, I can’t wait to hear what you all get up to!

February

What a busy month we have had!  A big thank you to everyone who was able to take time out of their day to attend our open afternoon. The class loved being able to share their learning and show off their classroom. Lots of our activities and targets were based around our old topic, looking at different countries all around the world.

Some children made globes.

The children have loved looking at the flags of the world and trying to remember the names of each country.

Our fine motor area has been used to create various continents.

Our new topic is ‘people who help us’ and we are so excited and grateful to those who have responded with offers to come in and tell us a little bit about what they do, we can’t wait to report back!

This month we also attended our very first XA Factor talent show, we loved seeing all the wonderful things other year groups can do, and our very own Penny took part showing her Highland Dancing!

January

In Primary 1.2 we have been very interested to learn about different countries this month. We’ve been exploring using technology to find out about how other people live and have loved visiting other countries together be using the street view.

We’ve talked about where we live, different countries and continents and next we’ll start learning how different people speak different languages. The children enjoyed making their own flags and learning some of the names of the different countries.

The cold weather has been a great opportunity to get outside for some sensory walks. We’ve been thinking about how the weather is changing during winter and how this effects what we can see, here, smell and feel. The children worked together to draw pictures and write about how they are using their different senses. They’ve been very motivated to learn about the weather which followed on from our weather recording activities last month.

December

Primary 1.2 have had a very exciting December.

They worked with their buddies to create some Christmas Art.

Everyone put on an amazing performance for our Nativity.

We met Santa’s reindeer and had a turn in the sleigh.

Everyone had a fabulous time at the Primary 1 and 2 party!

October

October has been another busy month in Primary 1.2.

We learned a song about our rights to the tune of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ and some of the nursery children visited us so we could teach it to them too.

We learned about being fair and unfair by learning about Rosa Parks. We did some role play where people with hats were only allowed to sit and speak to other people with hats and discussed whether this is fair or not.

This month we learnt how to be weather forecasters and we drew pictures of the weather every day for a week, we collected the information into tally marks and pictograms.

We’ve also been very independent with our phonics and have learnt to work in partners to use blending boards independently.

After learning about Fairtrade items and different foods, we were inspired to try some cooking! Primary 1 made apple crumble and pumpkin soup.

September

In Primary 1 this month we have enjoyed learning about colours in French. We read the story ‘Katie and the Sunflowers’ and together with the Primary 2’s made a big sunflower display.

Primary 1 were visited by their primary 5 buddies who had designed a ‘Mr Men’ book to read with the Primary 1s. Everyone enjoyed reading the stories and the Primary 1s and 5s then worked together to create their own Mr Men character.

August in Primary 1.2

The boys and girls have all settled really well into Primary 1 and have enjoyed exploring the classroom and making new friends. I will be able to post photos of the children’s faces for our next blog post.

We’ve begun to learn our sounds and have been learning how to work independently on our ‘targets’.  We’ve focused on writing our names, and drawing about stories we’ve been reading together.

We created a class charter and talked about ways we can make sure the class is a happy place for everyone. We all contributed excellent ideas.

We have  a class bear we’ve named Rosie. We’ve played lots of games with Rosie and taken her on a tour of the school. She’s started to go home with different members of the class at the weekend and we’re all enjoying reading what she’s been up to!
