October 2024

Hi everybody,

It was lovely getting to chat to you all at parents’ night this week. P2/2 have had a busy and enjoyable October- here’s what we’ve been up to…

In science, we’ve been learning about space. We decided to head outdoors to model how the planets orbit around the sun at difference speeds. Each orbit is 1 year and it takes the far away planets much longer to orbit than nearby planets!

In muddy movers, we’ve been exploring different ways that we can balance. We can use different parts of our bodies to balance on and can use the equipment in various ways to help with this.

We were very lucky to have received a taekwondo session! Everybody had a wonderful time and learned some new skills.

Finally, we had a wonderful Halloween! We chatted about our costumes, completed a Halloween mystery using our number skills and created spooky silhouette artwork.

September 2024

Hi everybody,

It’s hard to believe we’re at the September weekend already! P2/2 have had a super September. Here’s some of the things we’ve been up to…

It was lovely getting to see so many of you at our open afternoon at the start of the month. The children were excited to show off what they had been learning about for our Mythical Creatures topic and created some fabulous things with your help.

We have continued investigating mythical creatures this month, focusing on some of our favourites such as dragons and unicorns. We have also been learning about woodland magical creatures and made some toadstool houses for any creatures who decide to visit our classroom…

In PE, we have been working on possession games. We have been rotating around lots of different stations to practise, throwing, catching, control, aiming and teamwork.  Our favourite was shooting into a basketball hoop!

In muddy movers, we have been working as part of a team to create bridges. We have tested out different materials to find out which ones are suitable for a strong bridge. Some were great but others were too weak or wobbly. Using what we learned, we are improving our ideas to make bigger, stronger bridges.

We are becoming more confident at problem solving in maths and enjoy working with a partner to select different strategies which can help us. We have also been investigating numbers to 100 in maths and have a good understanding of how these numbers are made. Counting in 10s is much quicker than counting in 1s for big numbers!

Have a lovely September weekend,

Miss Donaldson and P2/2

August 2024

Hi everybody,

It has been lovely getting to know Primary 2/2 these past few weeks. We’ve been having a great time exploring the classroom and making it our own. I’m not able to include photos with pupil’s faces in it just yet but once I can, I’ll share our class photo from our first day in P2.

We’ve luckily managed to avoid the worst of the rain so far and having been enjoying our Monday afternoons at Muddy Movers. We have worked as a team to create structures to balance on and have been investigating the wildlife that can be found in the garden. Our favourite was a ladybird!

In PE, we have started learning about keeping fit. We’ve been keen to participate in a range of activity stations which help our fitness to improve.

In maths, we have been working in pairs to practise problem solving. We’re getting pretty good already! Some of us have also been investigating angles and learning to follow instructions which include directional language.

Finally, our science focus currently is space. We have learned that the Earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours which is why day and night occur. Then we made our own sundials to watch the movement ourselves.

We’re looking forward to our open afternoon where we hope to see lots of our grown ups!

Miss Donaldson and P2/2 😊
