It is hard to believe we are coming to the end of Primary 1! What a quick year it has been. I am so proud of each and every one of you it has been such a pleasure being your teacher. Thank you for all your hard work and parents, thank you for your support and kind words this year.
Here are some photos from our school trip and our fruit kebab making.
What a quick month it has been it is hard to believe we are almost at the end of Primary 1. Check out our video we have made for the new children who will be starting in August. We had great fun talking about life in Primary 1 https://www.thinglink.com/video/1850272109486408548
We have been learning about animals around the world and have made our own non-fiction books. We were interested in what wildlife can be found in our school grounds and had a visit from Rennie, the park ranger from Barrhead Dams. He talked to us about the different animals and plants in the local area and helped us search for mini beasts in the Muddy Movers area.
We have had a busy start to term 3. On Monday 22nd April we celebrated World Earth day and made a class promise that we will turn off the lights when we leave the classroom and turn off the board when we are not using it to save electricity. We spoke about the importance of recycling and making sure our litter goes in the bin.
In maths we have been learning about data handling. We have been sorting objects by different criteria.
What a quick month March has been. We became authors as we created our own story based on We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We read our stories to the nursery children then our p6 friends. Later we designed our front cover.
Throughout February we have been learning about people who help us. We had a special visit from PC Lorraine who told us lots of information about her job. We listened well and asked questions. Some of us wanted to try on her hat and some of us decided we want to be a police officer when we grow up!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. We have settled back into Primary 1 and have been busy with lots of new learning.
We loved having Primary 7 join us for some outdoor learning. They taught us how to make a shelter. We worked in groups to plan and build our shelter. We had to follow a design brief, the shelter had to stand without us holding it and it had to fit us all inside. Check them out below!
This term we will be developing our gymnastic skills. We have started to learn how to hold body shapes including straight, t, y, star and tuck.
We had great fun at our party and had a special visitor, Santa! Happy holidays to primary 1 and their families. Thank you so much for all the hard work this term and support shown from home.
A Christmas STEM challenge
We worked with primary 7 to build a sleigh for Santa using construction materials. We had to follow a design brief, the sleigh had to stand unaided, have a seat for santas helper and hold two small presents. We all successfully passed the design brief.
Thank you to all the grown ups for being such a great audience. Primary 1 worked so hard on the nativity and we are so pleased you enjoyed it. Well done primary 1!
Literacy
In literacy we continue to learn new sounds and tricky words. We have been blending sounds to read and write words.
French
In French we have been learning the names for colours and numbers. We were given instructions in French of which number of bear to colour and which colour to use.
Children in Need
We had lots of fun during children in need visiting the toy sale and taking part in activities organised by the house captains in the gym hall.
Library visit
We visited the library at the foundry to collect our bookbug bags!
