December

December has been a very busy month!
Thank you to all the children who brought in a favourite Christmas book wrapped up for under our Christmas tree, we have really enjoyed sharing all the books this month and also spending time reading books in our library corner🎄📚

The lucky square game that we made for the Christmas fayre was a huge hit! We cut out all the squares and put them in a bag. Then Mrs MacDonald picked out the winning square. Congratulations to Caleb for picking the winning square.

I would also like to say a HUGE congratulations to all the children for putting on such a wonderful nativity performance, I think you’re all super stars 🌟

Harry and Lewis have been exploring symmetry with some of the construction blocks while Joel and Andrew have built amazingly detailed and tall towers with the Kapla. 🤩

On Tuesday Primary 4 came to visit us. We enjoyed listening to their snow globe adventure stories that they had written and we shared the books that we had made with them.

We have enjoyed making different Christmas crafts over the last couple of weeks too, including fingerprint Christmas trees, festive baubles and tree designing.

We have just finished off the year with a fun party and a visit from Santa 🎅🏻

I hope you all now enjoy a restful and wonderful  holiday and look forward to seeing you all back in January.

Merry Christmas!

November

Our highlight this month was definitely getting a visit from Santa’s reindeer. We loved feeding them carrots and getting to pet them. 🦌🎅🏻

This week we also made fruit kebabs and then independently wrote a set of instructions.

A huge well done to all children who shared achievements this month. It’s always lovely to hear about your achievements outside of school 🌟

We finished off this week at our House Quiz, we were so proud to see one of our classmates being selected to play 🌟

Now we look forward to a very busy December with our very special Nativity performance. We look forward to seeing you all there. 🎄

Halloween Spells

After reading Room on the Broom we decided to write our own spells. First of all we had to decide what the spell would make us do, lots of great ideas came from the children like making them fly, turning them invisible and glowing in the dark. Then we decided what ingredients would be needed to make the potion. Again we had some fantastic ideas, such as crushed bones, bat wings, slime, fireflies and blood! Finally, we wrote the instructions which concluded with a magical word. 🧙‍♀️🪄🎃

After writing our potions and spells we read them to the rest of the class and enjoyed carving a pumpkin which had been donated to our class from Abbie in Primary 7 🎃

Taekwondo

We recently enjoyed a taster session of Taekwondo with a visiting instructor. We all learned some new skills and had lots of fun while keeping active.

October so far 🍁🍂

We started off October learning about numbers to 100. We can find the number after and before a given number, we can find the number between two numbers and complete a 100 square jigsaw.

We even enjoyed completing a scavenger hunt outside using numbers up to 100.

In Numeracy we’ve also been learning about symmetry and odd and even numbers.

In Literacy, we have enjoyed reading to each other, learning about proper and common nouns and we’ve just started learning about alphabetical order. Now we know the alphabet we are working on identifying the letter before and after a given letter. We can also put 3 consecutive letters in order.

Finley shared a fantastic book of his titled ‘All About Friends’ which lead to wonderful discussions about what makes a good friend and how to fix things when we fall out. We are all going to work on being a good, kind, caring friend who offers compliments and looks out for each other ❤️ The children had great ideas for qualities they look for in a fantastic friend ❤️

We all enjoying playing outside at Muddy Movers.

I hope you all have a lovely October holiday week and look forward to hearing about all your adventures when we return.

September

What a lovely start to the year having our Open Afternoon and we loved having so many visitors joining us.

The children decided that they would like to do a mini topic on Julia Donaldson.  We have read, listened to and independently worked on The Snail and the Whale, Paper Dolls, Monkey Puzzle, The Scarecrows Wedding, A Squash and a Squeeze and What the Ladybird hear so far.

After reading Monkey Puzzle we enjoyed playing ‘Who am I?’

Can you guess what animal we would like to be?

Our Scarecrow pictures are work in progress…

We started this term working on throwing and catching and team games at PE.

Just a wee reminder that PE day is on a Monday and Outdoor Learning is on a Wednesday.  Please provide children with a spare pair of clothes, especially socks, on a Wednesday just in case we get wet and muddy.

Thank you,

Mrs Brown
