{"id":2253,"date":"2025-09-08T12:47:03","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T11:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/class2029b\/?p=2253"},"modified":"2025-09-08T15:38:47","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T14:38:47","slug":"welcome-primary-4-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/class2029b\/2025\/09\/08\/welcome-primary-4-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Primary 4\/2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welcome to a new school year in Primary 4!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am thrilled to be starting this learning journey together and I can\u2019t wait to share all the wonderful topics, skills and activities we will be exploring throughout the year!<\/p>\n<p>As we are still waiting on the return of all digital consent forms, pupils\u2019 faces have been covered in this post for privacy reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Our P4s have made a fantastic start to the year and have already been working hard to brighten up their classroom with their art and work. Here\u2019s a little preview until our first open afternoon on Tuesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> September.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting Targets!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The children made targets to work toward within their literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, which are now proudly displayed in class.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy! Book Tasting and Grammar Enthusiasts <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In literacy, Primary 4 have been hard at work developing their grammar and reading skills. So far, they have been focusing on proper nouns, pronouns, and adjectives, making sure to set out their work neatly and carefully in their jotters.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside grammar, the class took part in our exciting book tasting reading caf\u00e9. The children \u2018stamped\u2019 five different books, wrote a short review of each, and then chose a favourite to keep in their tray for quiet reading time. It was a brilliant way to explore new titles, front covers, genres and spark enthusiasm for reading! Working in groups, the children experimented with different shapes and structures to create towers that were not only the tallest but also the strongest. This encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and plenty of creative thinking. Pupils shared ideas and tested out strategies together. The children amazed me with the knowledge they already had and contributed lots of fantastic ideas to our class discussions. Together, the class came up with ideas and questions they would like to explore, giving them ownership of the direction of their learning.<\/p>\n<p>To bring our topic to life, the class also had fun piecing together the bones of the skeleton-testing their memory from class discussion. Children had fun creating their very own skeleton artwork using black paper, colourful straws and googly eyes. The results were both creative and eye-catching. It was lovely to see how each piece of work was unique.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and curiosity from the class already. The children have been working very hard, listening carefully during teacher input, and applying their learning with focus and enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the children have been investigating number patterns and sequences, exploring place value, and comparing numbers to decide which are greater than, less than and equal to each other.
