Welcome back Primary 4 🌟

Welcome back Primary 4, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! πŸ₯³

Primary 4 had a fantastic visit from our P7 buddies, who came to teach us all about electricity and circuits! They showed us how to make simple circuits and even helped us try some hands-on activities. It was so much fun learning from our older friends, and we loved exploring how electricity works in a safe and exciting way. πŸ’‘

The Hexagons and Octagons maths groups have been working hard on 3D shapes! To make learning extra fun, they went on a scavenger hunt around the classroom to spot and identify lots of different 3D shapes. The children loved searching for shapes and showed great teamwork and enthusiasm while learning about cubes, cylinders, spheres, pyramids and more! πŸ”

The Hexagons and Octagons also took their learning outside! They went on the lookout for sticks and acorns to create their very own 3D shapes.

We then made our own 3D information shapes and nets posters!

Well done, Primary 4! πŸ’βœ–οΈ

We had a super time celebrating Burns Day with a fun writing activity! We watched the video Haggis and Neeps and took note of some interesting Scots language. Then we got creative and made our own bright and eye-catching Scots bubbles, writing a Scottish word and its meaning. We identified dreich, which means dull or damp. The children loved learning new words and showing off their colourful designs! πŸ’™

Children channelled their inner Robert Burns and got creative with some tartan silhouette art! The children designed their own colourful silhouettes to celebrate the famous Scottish poet, showing off their imagination and artistic skills. πŸŽ¨πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨

Children had a blast challenging themselves with a grammar race! We had to spot and circle all the adjectives on the board, and the team that finished first won. The children loved racing against each other while practising their grammar skills and showing off their quick thinking! πŸ’πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM PRIMARY 4!

Primary 4 displayed their Christmas knowledge while making Christmas acrostic poems! First, we worked in groups to create mind maps full of festive words and ideas. Then we used them to write our very own poems using the word Christmas. The children were so creative and imaginative, and it was lovely to see all their festive ideas come to life! β„οΈπŸŽ„πŸŽ

We had a special visit from some real reindeer! We got to feed them crunchy carrots and even sit in Santa’s sleigh. The most exciting part was watching one of the reindeer shed its antler! Everyone loved getting so close to these magical animals and experiencing a bit of Christmas magic up close. 🦌πŸ₯•βœ¨

Primary 4 had so much fun giving our classroom a Christmas makeover! We decorated with colourful baubles, Santa art and festive garlands to make it feel really magical. Everyone helped to add their own special touches, and our classroom felt cosy and full of Christmas cheer! πŸŽ„

Primary 4 had an absolute blast at our Christmas party! We played fun games, enjoyed some treats, and danced along to festive music. Everyone looked fantastic in their party clothes, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles and laughter. It was the perfect way to end the term and celebrate all our hard work this year! πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈπŸŽ

Lastly, a big THANK YOU to all the wonderful parents and families of Primary 4 for my beautiful present – it is truly appreciated!🌟

Cross Arthurlie Turns 60! πŸ₯³

Primary 4 loved celebrating our school turning 60 years old! To mark the special occasion, we threw it back to the 1960s and came to school dressed in fantastic 60s-themed outfits. There were lots of bright colours, patterns and retro styles on show. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our school’s history and be part of such a special milestone. πŸͺ©πŸ•Ί

Term 1 throwback πŸ”™πŸ“šβœοΈ

Let’s take a look back at Primary 4’s jam packed Term 1! 😎

In October, Primary 4 had great fun creating their hauntedΒ  Halloween windows. The children used oil pastels and practised their blending techniques to create spooky skies and glowing effects. They showed fantastic creativity and effort in their artwork. The class also enjoyed designing a Halloween costume for Miss Taylor to wear while trick-or-treating, which brought lots of laughter and excitement! πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

P4 Super Stars🌟

We had lots of exciting show and tell time when Kai, Euan, Anna and Lucy brought in some fantastic items to share with the class! We saw a wand all the way from Hogwarts, some amazing rainforest artwork, learned some fun facts and some magnetic words that travelled all the way from New Zealand! We really enjoyed hearing all about them. πŸͺ„πŸ“–πŸŒ΄πŸŒ

There were also lots of awards to be won. P4.2 are so proud of our peers! πŸ†

We started our new topic, The Rainforest and had lots of fun locating the different layers within the Amazon! Children also made their own detailed fact file on an animal of their choice. πŸŒ³πŸ’πŸπŸ¦œ

Our new novel, The Twits, was a big hit with the class! The children loved the story and threw themselves into all the activities. They designed their own colourful book covers, worked together to create fun group role plays, and even thought up their own silly tricks for Mr and Mrs Twit. They also did a fantastic job remembering and talking about what happened in the story. πŸ‘΄πŸ‘΅πŸŽ¬

The Circles maths group worked incredibly hard while learning all about 2D shapes and showed fantastic effort and focus throughout. πŸ“

In ICT, we have been learning all about coding using Scratch. We were able to create short animations that included backgrounds, characters and movement. Well done, Primary 4! πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»

Welcome back from September weekend!

Welcome back Primary 4!

I hope you all had a lovely September weekend and enjoyed some time to rest and recharge. We have been working hard in Maths, Literacy, ICT and IDL, building our skills and exploring new ideas. The children have shown great enthusiasm and determination within their work.

Math and Numeracy ✏️

P4 we have been busy working on our maths skills! We went on scavenger hunts to practise place value, number properties, and number processes. We have also been challenging ourselves by starting multiplication calculations using our upstairs and downstairs method. The class has been working hard and showing great determination! Maths made fun πŸ“š

Literacy and Novel πŸ“–

In Literacy, we have been enjoying our class novel The Legend of Spud Murphy and have now finished all five chapters. The children worked in groups to create posters, showing great teamwork, communication and listening skills as they retold the events of the story.

During our writing sessions, we have been watching short video clips and then using them to inspire our own writing. We have focused on character description, comparing Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull, and the children produced some fantastic pieces full of detail and imagination.

ICT πŸ’»

In ICT, the children have been practising their typing skills using Dance Mat Typing, helping them to become more confident and accurate on the keyboard. They have also been developing their research skills by using Google and search engines to find out interesting facts and record the answers on their worksheets.

IDL – Human Body Topic! πŸ§ πŸ«πŸ«€

We have been learning all about the human body. P4 have been creating their own life-size skeletons and exploring the digestive system, the brain, the heart, the lungs, and the respiratory system. We have been busy labelling diagrams, writing short paragraphs, colouring and creating art and quizzing ourselves to help us understand how the body works. We also carried out a fun experiment to see how the digestive system works, which helped bring our learning to life!

I have been so impressed with the effort, enthusiasm, kindness and hard work Primary 4 have put into their work and class ethos! Keep up the good work Primary 4 πŸ’• Miss Taylor

Welcome Primary 4/2

Welcome to a new school year in Primary 4!

I am thrilled to be starting this learning journey together and I can’t wait to share all the wonderful topics, skills and activities we will be exploring throughout the year!

As we are still waiting on the return of all digital consent forms, pupils’ faces have been covered in this post for privacy reasons.

Our P4s have made a fantastic start to the year and have already been working hard to brighten up their classroom with their art and work. Here’s a little preview until our first open afternoon on Tuesday 16th September.

Setting Targets!

The children made targets to work toward within their literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, which are now proudly displayed in class.

Literacy! Book Tasting and Grammar Enthusiasts

In literacy, Primary 4 have been hard at work developing their grammar and reading skills. So far, they have been focusing on proper nouns, pronouns, and adjectives, making sure to set out their work neatly and carefully in their jotters.

Alongside grammar, the class took part in our exciting book tasting reading cafΓ©. The children β€˜stamped’ five different books, wrote a short review of each, and then chose a favourite to keep in their tray for quiet reading time. It was a brilliant way to explore new titles, front covers, genres and spark enthusiasm for reading! Fantastic work P4!

STEM Spotlight: Spaghetti and Marshmallow Towers

Primary 4 took on an exciting STEM challenge – designing and building towers using only spaghetti and marshmallows! Working in groups, the children experimented with different shapes and structures to create towers that were not only the tallest but also the strongest. This encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and plenty of creative thinking. Pupils shared ideas and tested out strategies together. It was fantastic to see them preserve when towers wobbled or collapsed and celebrate when their designs stood tall and sturdy!

IDL: Investigating the Human Body

We have started our first Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) topic of the year: The Human Body. The children amazed me with the knowledge they already had and contributed lots of fantastic ideas to our class discussions. Together, the class came up with ideas and questions they would like to explore, giving them ownership of the direction of their learning.

To bring our topic to life, the class also had fun piecing together the bones of the skeleton-testing their memory from class discussion. Children had fun creating their very own skeleton artwork using black paper, colourful straws and googly eyes. The results were both creative and eye-catching. It was lovely to see how each piece of work was unique.

It’s been wonderful to see such enthusiasm and curiosity from the class already. We are excited to continue exploring the human body and discovering even more together!

Numeracy: Exploring Expressions and number patterns

In Numeracy, Primary 4 have begun their new topics on expressions and equations as well as number processes. The children have been working very hard, listening carefully during teacher input, and applying their learning with focus and enthusiasm.

So far, the children have been investigating number patterns and sequences, exploring place value, and comparing numbers to decide which are greater than, less than and equal to each other. It’s been great to see how quickly they are developing confidence with these concepts!

Heartstart Heros!

Children have been working carefully to perfect their recovery position and choking first aid through their Heartstart training. Discussing the risk and safety factors surrounding these.

It has been fantastic to see the children grow close to one another and grow independently as learners! Keep it up P4!
