Tennis

Primary 4 were lucky to have Mr Rose come in for four weeks to teach them tennis skills. Through a lot of skills practise and activities they learned how to serve the ball correctly, how to hold the racquet and return the ball with accuracy.Β  They had fun playing mini matches.

Could we have the next Andy Murrray or Serena Williams in Primary 4/2?

Vikings πŸ›Ά

Primary 4 started their new topic of term 2 – The Vikings.

We have explored Viking clothing and learned about the different materials Vikings used to make their clothes. We discovered how wool, linen, and animal skins were used to keep people warm, comfortable, and ready for work or battle. It was fascinating to see how practical and creative Viking clothing was, and it helped us understand more about their daily lives and culture. πŸ›‘οΈπŸ§΅πŸ‘•

We had a fantastic time learning about Viking life by building our own Viking longships and longhouses. We constructed models of the longships, thinking carefully about how Vikings would have sailed across seas and rivers. We also designed longhouses, learning how Vikings lived, cooked, and slept in these special buildings. Everyone worked hard to make their creations detailed while showing what they had learned about Viking history. It was a fun and creative way to bring the Viking world to life! βš“πŸ

Super Swimming! πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸ©±πŸ€½β€β™€οΈ

Primary 4 have started their six-week block of swimming lessons at The Foundry. The class did a fantastic job on the walk from school to the swimming pool and made a great first impression during their first lesson. Everyone showed respect for the pool, the rules, and the staff while listening carefully to their instructors. The swimming instructors even told Miss Taylor how well behaved Primary 4 were, which made us all very proud. We are looking forward to improving our swimming skills over the next few weeks! πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘

Thank you to all out parent helpers too!

World Book Day! πŸŒŽπŸ“šπŸŽ‰

On World Book Day we had the pleasure of listening to Anna read a book she had brought in to share with the class. Everyone enjoyed listening to the story and discussing it together afterwards. We also talked about the importance of World Book Day and how reading helps us learn new things, use our imagination, and discover exciting stories. It was a lovely way to celebrate books and share our love of reading as a class. πŸ“šβœ¨

RSPB Birdwatching πŸ¦πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

Primary 4 took part in a birdwatching activity with RSPB where we spotted and kept track of different species of birds in our playground. We carefully observed the birds we could see and listened for their sounds while recording our findings. We kept a tally of how many we had spotted. This helped us learn more about the different types of birds that live around our school and why it is important to look after wildlife. We really enjoyed being nature detectives and discovering which birds visit our playground. πŸ¦πŸŒΏπŸ“‹

Ottoline and the Yellow Cat πŸ˜ΊπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ“–

In class we have been enjoying our class novel, Ottoline and the Yellow Cat by Chris Riddell. After reading our chapter, we work in groups to answer comprehension questions. Each group discussed their ideas together and decided what they wanted their final answer to be. We then chose a group scribe to write the answer down and share it with the rest of the class. At the end of our lessons we also play a fun game called β€œHot Seat”. One pupil takes the hot seat and becomes a character from the story, while the rest of the class ask them questions. The pupil answers as if they are that character, which has helped us think more deeply about the story and its characters. πŸ“šπŸŽ

XA Factor! 🎭🎀🎢

Our school talent show, the XA Factor, was a very exciting event for everyone. We were especially proud of Harris in P4, who showed great bravery and confidence by performing in front of the whole school. Harris sang β€œHeather on the Hill” by Nathan Evans and did an amazing job on stage. Everyone in P4 loved watching the performance and cheered him on. We were all so proud of Harris and enjoyed every minute of the show! πŸŒŸπŸŽ€πŸ‘

Speed race multiplication πŸ”’πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ€βž‘οΈ

We have been practising our multiplication skills with fun speed races during our starter and plenary activities. Working in pairs, we have 10 cards in front of us showing the answers to a chosen times table, such as the 6 times table. Miss Taylor calls out a question like β€œ6 Γ— 6” and we race to grab the correct answer card, which would be 36. This helps us improve both our multiplication knowledge and our quick thinking. We have also been challenging ourselves on Hit the Button to see how many questions we can answer correctly as a class. We are trying to beat our class best score. It has been a fun, simple and exciting way to build our confidence with times tables! βž—βš‘

Times Tables Rockstars! πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ€πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ€βœ–οΈπŸ”’

In Primary 4 we have been combining ICT with our numeracy and mathematics. We have been revisiting our multiplication and division skills by practising our times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars. To make it even more exciting, Miss Taylor set up a friendly class competition with a girls vs boys battle to see who could earn the highest amount of coins! Everyone worked hard to answer as many questions as they could and improve their speed and accuracy. It has been a fun and engaging way to practise our maths skills while using technology. πŸ’»βž—πŸŽΈ
