Last week we read the book βFriends beyond measureβ by Lalena Fisher. It had lots of ideas linked to directions and data handling.
First we learned about how to give directions using the words turn right, turn left and forwards. We practised using a few games before heading outside with a partner who we pretended was our robot that we had to give directions to:
Then we headed back inside to create our own town map. We created a character to move around the map and give directions to:
Next we learned about tally marks and pictographs. We created our own surveys and collected the data before presenting it in a table or pictograph:
After that, we took inspiration from the artist Sonia Delaunay.Β We created our own shape art using different sizes of circles. We decided to stick our art work on the window to brightness up the classroom:
Lots of our learning last month linked to our science topic – food chains!
We started by learning about animals in Antarctica. We loved watching parts of blue planet to discover what animals live there and who eats who! We made a cover page of Antarctica in our jotters and worked together to build some food chains:
Next we created some art work of Antarctica and learned a little bit about the Southern lights. For the Southern lights, Β we smudged oil pastels onto black paper:
For the mountains in Antarctica, we learned about value and how we can mix a colour with black to create a shade or mix a colour with white to create a tint:
After that, we learned how to use google drawing to create a digital picture of a penguin:
Our writing topic at the moment is instructions. We have been learning lots about bossy verbs, adverbs and time connectives. We worked with a partner to create a silly 5 sentence story:
Also, we have made posters to help us remember some important vocabulary:
We have settled into our new class in Primary 3. Our Flat Stanley mini topic has linked to lots of our learning so far.
In literacy we have been learning to track character emotion Β and to identify cause and effect.
In writing we are learning to write a report. We are currently coming up with our own news report ideas linked to Flat Stanley.
In Social Studies we have been discussing our rights and responsibilities. We are currently creating our class charter to show how we are going to access our right to education, to play, to privacy and to share our views.
In health and well-being we have been discussing jealousy, itβs ok to be different and showing respect. We have enjoyed role playing different scenarios and emotions through drama.
Primary 2.1 had so much fun at sports day this year. They got to try out lots of the fun activities and win loads of points for their houses.
Team Levern
Team Gleniffer
Team Shanks
Team Craigie
Some of the children in Primary 2.1 won their heat races and participated in the school races at the end part of sports day with the whole school. They earned a range of positions but all tried their best. π
Thank-you to all the parents who helped and were able to come along to support from the sides. We are all glad you were able to make it and hope you enjoyed! π
Primary 2 enjoyed a day of outdoor learning.Β They completed a number scavenger hunt around the playground where they had to identify the number and the quantity of tens and units.
They then also joined in with a weighing activity. The class have been learning to weigh with grams and kilograms. They were estimating the weight of objects then using scales to measure the items.
Lastly we went out for muddy movers where they were set a challenge to create a den. One group worked well together to create this house. It even had a front door entrance with flowers and a path.
The other group made a restaurant which they kept refining to make it fit more people in.
All of Primary 2.1 shared great information on there chosen subject. They all had their own choice of topic and the selection was amazing meaning we learnt new things from one another. They were working on eye contact and sharing their information with confidence and clarity. The talks were all amazing and everyone was so confident sharing their work.
I can tell they worked hard practising at home as they were able to answer different questions from their peers.
The children got to celebrate world book day by walking to the library at the foundry to collect their books. π They got the chance to look at some books and their own. The fairytale maps were a huge hit trying to spot the different well known stories. ππ§π§π»
Also as part of the Big Walk and Wheel the children brought their bikes and scooters to school. The primary 7 house captains had different activities set up for them to participate in. They did really well with them, especially the speed test to see how fast they can go from one side to the other. π²π΄
On Friday we also celebrated Red Nose Day. We learnt about the people that Red Nose Day helps. They joined in with some fun red nose activities in the gym hall.
We also had 3 winners in our class. Alana and Matthew guessed the correct number of red noses in the jar, winning house points for their house. Erin guessed Gromit’s birthdayΒ correctly, winning the teddy to take home. π
More busy and fun days to come. π
We have been learning about Scotland and it’s history. The children took part in researching Scottish traditional foods such as shortbread, haggis and Scottish broth. π₯£
Together the children chopped, cooked and tasted soups they made. We choose to make vegetable soup and they worked together to chop vegetables from potatoes to carrots safely. They used safe holding positions of the knife to help protect themselves.
The claw hold is being used to help the children hold their vegetables securely while they slice down. The children put all the ingredients into the soup maker and heard as the soup chopped and cooked ready for them to eat. πͺπ₯π₯π§
Everyone took the courage to try the soup and by the looks on their faces most of them enjoyed it. π
Primary 2 have been learning about balance and coordination, completing a sequence of movements across an area. They have been using their arms to help balance them at the end of every movement. Working together they can complete a group balance too.
They have enjoyed having the climbing wall out to explore. Together they created different rules that are there to keep everyone safe while still pushing themselves to try new things.
Some of the children have been using their upper body strength to pull themselves up the ropes.
The children have also been working on their landing movements safely on 2 feet with their arms out for balance. They have been confidently trying new movements and every time they become more precise with landing.
