Spring has finally arrived and we have been very busy with our learning. We have taken the time to notice the signs of Spring around us in our school grounds. We have filled our classroom with fresh flowers which we have enjoyed drawing, painting and caring for💐

This month, P4.1 started their block of swimming at the Barrhead Foundry. The pupils have been excellent at getting themselves organised independently. It has been lovely to see everyone helping each other and having fun in the pool. Already we have been exploring different strokes and water safety. Wednesdays are busy with lots of fresh air on our walk to The Foundry and swimming.

For World Book Day, our Primary 4 class had a fantastic time celebrating the joy of reading! We paired up with Primary 1 and 2 pupils, where our P4s showed great responsibility by reading with expression and asking thoughtful questions, while the younger pupils impressed us with their growing confidence in reading aloud. It was great to see some siblings enjoying reading together. Afterwards, P4 took part in an exciting book scavenger hunt, identifying titles and authors from clues on book covers and collecting letters to uncover a secret message. We finished the day by sharing our favourite books and authors, giving each other brilliant recommendations—now we all have plenty of new stories to enjoy! 📚

We have been continuing our revision of multiplication tables and related division facts as we continue to learn new Mathematics concepts, such as measuring length. To help with speed when recalling our multiplication stories, we headed outside to draw our own hopscotch. Every time we landed on a square, we had to say a multiplication or division story. Some children gor creative – their partner had to say a multiplication or division question and they skip counted to their answer as the hopped! Children were encouraged to pick a table that they would like to revise and most children picked the tables they have in their Term 2 goals. Well done P4 – keep revising! 👏

Our violinists have been preparing for their performance at the Easter Service. They played with confidence one afternoon in the classroom. Well done to our many young musicians in P4.1 👏

We brought our learning in Science and Technologies together as we took part in the BBC micro:bit Playground Survey. In Science we have been identifying man-made (synthetic such as metal) and natural materials (such as untreated wood) and exploring their properties. We have also matched this up with our learning about temperature, particularly connecting it to our knowledge of the changing seasons within a temperate climate zone.
We then used our knowledge of coding to create a small thermometer from a micro:bit, which is a small codable device with lots of potential! We then carried out our survey, ensuring we had designed a fair test beforehand (For example, we all had to measure areas that were in the sunlight and not the shade for more consistent results). We will now use our results to look for patterns and show the importance of repeat testing. We will reflect on the impact of these different materials in our playground on pupils and wildlife.

Ten o’clock: Ottoline inspecting the curtains and Mr Munroe trying to get her attention.

Once the pizzas were cooked it was time for the taste test. First we tried our own pizza and rated look, smell and taste. Afterwards we got the chance to try a partners pizza and share some peer feedback.
