Another month into the term and we have certainly been busy in p2/2!

In literacy we have been learning all about how to persuade people! We did so well with our persuasive writing that we were able to persuade Mrs MacDonald to give us an extra break time! We learned about why we might want to persuade someone and what words we can use to get people to see our point of view. We have also been continuing with our spelling and reading and my goodness me, I’ve been so impressed! It’s amazing to see how far all the children have come since the beginning of primary 2!

In numeracy we have continued to revise our numbers stories, learn about rounding and the butterflies and spiders have been doing vertical calculations! We have all been working so hard as well revising concepts like our months of the year, Ten and Units and finding missing numbers! Take a look at some of the things going on in the classroom.

In topic we learned all about different habitats and global warming. We have now moved onto the Romans and goodness me, what fun! Although we are only 2 lessons in, we’ve made some Roman temples out of cardboard which will be stuck up on our topic wall to make a village. Did you know that Emperor Caligula made his horse a consul? We learned that too!

In health and wellbeing we have been working hard at our gymnastics skills by improving our balancing and sequencing. The pupils all really impressed me with their hard work and how well they would self-assess and peer-assess one another. A fantastic block and we look forward to our rebound games before Easter.

We even had two of our own compete in the XA Factor as a dancing duo! Well done Cara and Eva! Well done as well to the pupils in the dance club who also competed, what a brilliant performance! I was so proud of you all!

Again, a total pleasure to have these hard working and fantastic young people in my class. A real joy to teach!

Thinking of all Scouts and Guides in all organisations across the world.

Over the last few Thursdays we have been learning about money.

We can:

– identify all coins and notes.

– show different ways of making the same total.

– record amounts accurately in different ways.

– give change.

– calculate a total amount spent and calculate change.

Today we used our money skills to visit the Cross Arthurlie Fair! We had to pay the stall holders to play the game, stall holders had to calculate change and winnings. We all had such a fun time at the fair.

Happy 2023 and happy Lunar New Year to you all! What a busy start to the term and the new year!

In numeracy, the butterflies and spiders have been learning lots about subtraction and how to find numbers ‘in between’ two others. Our jotter layout has certainly been improving and I’m so impressed by everyone’s hard work in maths! We seem to have a group of budding mathematicians! The Ladybugs have now moved onto numbers up to 100 and my goodness I am so impressed by their hard work, to say there are lots of stickers and house points being given out is an understatement.

In Literacy we have continued with our sounds and have been writing persuasively. We decided to write about what animal should be our class mascot but we all seem to still like having Lola so I guess we will just need to have 2! We are working super hard in comprehension and reading as well. Mathematicians and book worms?! Goodness I am one lucky teacher!

In Health and Wellbeing we’ve been looking at friendships and how we can be good friends to one another. We have also been doing gymnastics in PE and I am thoroughly impressed by how well we have been doing (Miss Smith… not so much. Who’d have thought? 😂).

I do apologise that there are not more pictures, for some reason they are not transferring from the iPad to the computer to upload. I’ll make sure it is sorted for next time!  have so enjoyed the beginning of this term with my lovely wee class and am so excited for things to come!

Today we celebrated Chinese New Year. We enjoyed listening to the story of the Chinese New Year Animal Race.  We learned that the rabbit came fourth in the race and that this year is the year of the rabbit. 🐇

We also learned that to celebrate the New Year, Chinese people make and light paper lanterns, clean their houses, join in dragon dances, watch firework displays, eat together as a family to name just a few things.

We made our own paper lantern pictures using tissue paper and then made a black silhouette rabbit to finish it off. We think they all look fantastic.

In French, we learned to say Merry Christmas 🎄 and used our new vocabulary to make a Christmas card for our families.

We also learned how to say lots of colours in french and used this new knowledge to colour a Christmas picture.

During muddy movers we loved exploring and playing with the frost and ice.

Finally, I’d like to say a huge well done to each and everyone of Primary 2/2 for their fabulous nativity performance. I think you’re all superstars 🌟❤️

We have been learning to describe, follow and record routes. We have been giving and following oral directions including right and left turns through right angles. We now know a right angle has 90 degrees. We can write instructions for a route and program BeeBot to follow our directions.

We had a fantastic time at our Christmas party! We played musical statues (well done on being one of the winners Arlo!), pass the parcel (which had a little surprise as the prize, mwahaha) and got some yummy snacks. We even had a special visit from Santa Claus AND he said we could all have one of our Christmas presents early! What a great way to finish our first term!

Wow wee, it’s Christmas time already! How did that happen? P2/2 have continued to work super hard in class and certainly deserve their holiday!

In Numeracy, we have looked at our number bonds all the way to 20 and can now explain what the greater than and less than signs (><) mean. You can even see in one of the pictures that someone made the signs using Tens columns! We all think the signs look like Munching Crunching Crocodiles because the big number is always by the mouth! We also had some excellent patterns of flags after the World Cup had finished and some domino towers.

In Literacy,  we have been continuing to work on our sounds and tricky words. We have been revising adjectives and the different ways we can describe something, look at our adjectives for Mr Christmas Tree! We’ve been working so hard in our writing by creating sets of instructions, fact files about how we use our senses and the inventors that we have looked at in topic. We have even written stories about why Santa was stuck up the chimney and about a cheeky reindeer who snuck into our classroom!

In Topic, we have been finishing our Scotland topic and have spent the last few weeks looking at the different inventors from Scotland. The class particularly enjoyed learning about John Logie Baird since he invented the TV! We also researched Alexander Graham Bell and Alexander Flemming, made notes and then used our notes to fill out fact files. Did you know Alexander Graham Bell’s mum was deaf so he was inspired to become a teacher for children with hearing difficulties? AND that Alexander Flemming made penicillin by accident? We couldn’t believe it! Finally we designed and made our own inventions, you can see a fantastic flying car in our pictures.

Finally, our Nativity was a huge success and we were all so excited to show you all our hard work! We have some budding Hollywood stars, I really couldn’t be more proud of how hard they worked for the nativity. Well done to all of the pupils!

Not only is it the end of the month, it’s the end of a year and the end of term 1! I hope you all have a happy holiday period and relax, you deserve it after all the hard work in term 1! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, see you in 2023!

Wow. Another month done and dusted, how quick did that go?! We’ve continued to be super busy in p2/2, take a look at what we’ve been doing!

In numeracy, we’ve been looking at our numbers to 100, including counting in tens and units, counting quantities of pasta (which Miss Smith is still finding in her bags😱) and recapping our number names. I love seeing the confidence of the children grow in numeracy, and like I always say, ‘if it’s new and tricky, it’ll be easier tomorrow and even easier the next day.’

We have been busy practising our spelling and writing skills in literacy. We learned about what adjectives are and designed our own monster to help us practice describing. We’ve been practicing our tricky words and using them in sentences. Recently we made fruit kebabs to help us  write instructions and they made Miss Smith super hungry! We discussed healthy foods and how we can make our own perfect fruit kebabs.

In Health and Wellbeing, we focussed on passing games and began to look at fitness in PE. We looked at sequencing steps and different races. We played trucks and trailers, tunnel tig and mirrors. In PSE we have looked at emotions and discussed when we have felt emotions like courage.

We have also been working super hard on our Nativity which we cannot wait to show you all! I cannot wait to see where they all get to before Christmas!
