RME- Diwali 2023

Primary 3/2 have been learning about Diwali.Β  There was lots of discussion about good vs evil and light defeating darkness.Β  We talked a lot about feelings, religious celebrations and coloured in Rangoli patterns.

October

This month an alien spaceship crash landed into our classroom and made quite a mess. Luckily the alien knew how to use word document and left us a note asking for help!

The Alien gave us an idea to write a report about them. We discussed their appearance, hobbies, diet and any special features. We then used all our new report writing skills to write a report about our own aliens.

In numeracy, we are becoming so independent at completing all our targets. Here we are playing problem solving games with our peers:

In outdoor learning we have been identifying mini beasts in our playground:

August in P3/2

We have settled into our new class in Primary 3. Our Flat Stanley mini topic has linked to lots of our learning so far.

In literacy we have been learning to find information in a text. We have used this skill to answer comprehension questions, complete setting studies and track character emotion.

In writing we are learning to write a report. We are currently coming up with our own news report ideas linked to Flat Stanley.

In numeracy we have been consolidating our knowledge of cm and mm. We drew Flat Stanley and then used a ruler to measure parts of his body.

We are currently learning about the rights and responsibilitiesΒ  relevant and important to us. We will discuss our ideas and use these to create our class charter. We consolidated our knowledge ofΒ  needs and wantsΒ  and shared our own with the class.

We have also enjoyed the continuous provisions around our classroom linked to our topic.

My goodness me… a whole year is finished! How on Earth did that happen?! I can tell you we have been working just as hard this month, it’s definitely been the wind up to summer!

In literacy we have continued to practise our reading and spelling. We have also learned about storyboards and how they are used when people write movies or books!

In numeracy we have continued to work hard on vertical and horizontal calculations. The butterflies and spiders have learned all about Venn diagrams in our data handling and the ladybugs have looked at measuring weight.

In science we have been focussing on forces and have performed lots of experiments to highlight push and pull forces. We also learned about vibrations and used this knowledge to experiment when we were singing in music.

We also had our trip to Summerlee, a huge thank you to Alice’s mum for coming along to help Mrs Brown and I. We got to see lots of houses from different decades and play with toys that our grannies might have played with….. however I still say that the 90’s is not part of the “olden days” like the pupils think!

To say this has been a fantastic year is an understatement and I would like to take the opportunity to thank the children for their continued hard work across the year. You have all worked so hard and I am incredibly proud of the progress that you have made. Well done!

Have the best summer p2 (soon to be p3)!Β  I’m sure you’ll all go on to do fantastic things.

May with Miss Smith 🐝🐱

And just like that, we have worked all the way through another month! Who’d have thought a year could fly so fast? Not us!

We have been working super hard on our sounds and have been practising letter writing. We wrote to our guest, Dr Maclaren Β for topic and asked hime questions all about his job.

In numeracy we have all been practising recalling our number bonds and bringing in some of our French numbers into this. We’ve been doing some outdoor learning to help work on our Data Handling and hopefully manage the litter in our playground.

In topic we have been focussing on People Who Help Us. A huge thank you to Dr Maclaren, Chloe the Vet Nurse from Roundhouse Vets and a huge thank you to the police officer who came and showed us all inside the van! Miss Smith was a little worried someone would get stuck.

In HWB we have been focussing on healthy choices and routines we can have to keep us strong and healthy. We have also started our block on Bereavement, Loss and Grief which has been very insightful and calming to discuss as a class.

I cannot believe that another month has come to an end, look how much all these lovely children have changed! 1 more month until summer and they’re big primary 3’s! See you in June!

Reading RoomπŸ“š

A huge thank you to Grace’s mum and Orla’s gran for visiting us today.Β  We loved hearing stories about Elmer the Elephant and Kittie Lacey, The Fairytale Hairdresser.

Remember we will have a Reading Room every Monday afternoon so if you would like to bring your own book and a small cuddly toy to read with then pop them in your bags.

April with Miss Smith 🐱🐝

What a quick 2 weeks, almost into May!

During this two weeks in literacy, we have focussed on short vowel sounds, oi and oy in spelling. We have been playing games and going over our spelling lists in class to help us practise them! In writing we have been adding detail by continuing to write about our news from the weekend and writing about what we did during Easter and explaining why our favourite animal is the best. In our comprehension we have focussed on our summarising skills, allowing us to summarise passages and our group reading books!

In numeracy we have been continuing to practice our number bonds within 20, improving our quick recall everyday. The butterflies and spiders have been practising their vertical calculation skills and the lady bugs have been working very hard on their ordering skills to help them find the biggest and smallest numbers. We have also been recapping our pattern skills, creating them on whiteboards and sorting coins into certain amounts to practice our money handling skills.

The focus on health and wellbeing at this point is to understand how we can make healthy choices. This is done through food choices, sleep and exercise habits. So far we have successfully categorised food into healthy and unhealthy on the chromebooks and will be going on to make our own ‘perfect plate’ to highlight the healthy foods we like to eat, as well as the treats we like to have.

We are now into a session on rebound games, with the children all working very hard on their bat and ball skills, relay racing skills and sportsmanship. We also had a sunny dance lesson outside where we used the instructions of the cha cha slide to make our own dances.

Only two more months until this lovely class of primary 2 turn into bigΒ  primary 3s, where has all that time gone?! Another fantastic month in p2/2, can’t wait to see what May holds for us!

Up until Easter with Miss Smith 🐱🐝

What a brilliant term we have had in primary 2! We’ve been super busy with lots of visits form special visitors and making our way through our maths and literacy work!

In literacy we have continued to look at our sounds like ew, ar and qu. We have been using different ways to spell them with things like pasta. We also have continued to work on our adjectives by writing creatively, using feely bags and deciding what adjective best describes what is in the bag!

In numeracy we have continued to work on our numbers stories. We are getting very good at them. The Ladybugs have been working especially hard. We have also looked at weight and how on a balance scale the heavier object will be lower than the lighter one since it weighs more.

Β

We have wrapped up our Roman topic with some Roman writing and drama. I am so proud of my little Roman army all remembering their latin commands! We have made mosaic and temples which are hanging up on our display. We also remade our favourite Roman inventions, including a toilet, cutlery and a (toilet) house!

We have also been exploring expressive arts through different lessons like art, music and drama. Check out our musical skills! I was blown away by how fast the pupils picked up ta and te-te.

Finally in health and wellbeing we have been covering how to look after a baby. A HUGE thank you to Theo’s mum and baby brother for coming in to visit us. We were also lucky enough to have Mrs Carr bring in her grandson. We got to ask lots of questions and compare the differences between a 4 month old and a 1 year old. This also led to us looking at the similarities between plants and humans and what helps eveyone/everything grow. To top this off we planted some lavender, daisies and blue marigolds in the muddy movers planters. We have focussed on rebound games in PE and have also been taking part in the Big Walk and Wheel.

Β

A big thank you to all you pupils in p2/2 for your hard work this term. I hope you enjoy a well deserved rest over the Easter holidays. I will see you when you are back in April!
