Celebrating Sukkot

We have been learning about the Jewish festival Sukkot. We learned that a sukkah is a hut that is built for the week-long festival where Jewish families gather to eat, pray and spend time together and some even sleep inside their sukkah. The roof of the sukkah is topped with branches and inside is decorated with harvest or autumnal themes. Jewish families celebrate Sukkot in remembrance to their ancestors, who were freed from slavery in Egypt.ย  (ARTICLEย  24 and 30)

Zak had a great idea to build a sukkah during Muddy Movers. We all helped make paper chains and autumnal leaf mobiles to decorate inside. ๐Ÿย ๐Ÿ‚ย ๐Ÿƒ

Open Afternoon

A huge thank you to all the adults who came to visit us this afternoon. We loved showing off our Primary 2 work and having you help us with some hibernation tasks. We also enjoyed playing with you and completing lots of the activities around the room with you.

I hope you all enjoyed your visit and now have a lovely long September holiday weekend.

August with Mrs Brown ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒŸ

Welcome back everyone. Itโ€™s so lovely to see you already working so hard in Primary 2! ๐ŸŒŸ

We have been learning lots about 2D shapes:
Robert โ€˜2D shapes are flat.โ€™

Alice โ€˜A circle has 1 edge and 0 vertices.โ€™

Arlo โ€˜A rhombus has 4 vertices and 4 edges.โ€™

We went on a 2D shape hunt outside. We looked for circles, squares, rectangles, pentagons and hexagons.

ย  ย

We have been learning about repeating patterns. I thought your patterns were fantastic Primary 2.

In Numeracy we have also been revising days of the week, months of the year, seasons and number sequences.

ย

In Grammar we have been reciting the alphabet, learning the capital letter names and matching them to the lowercase sound and learning how to form each letter correctly.

We have also been looking at sentence structure. Every sentence must start with a capital letter, most sentences finish with a full stop and when we read the sentence it must make sense.

After listening carefully to โ€˜The Worrysaurusโ€™ and โ€˜What the Ladybird Heard Nextโ€™ we had a range of activities to complete. We used our knowledge of sounds to write mostly independently but had access to a wordmat if needed. We used clues from the text to draw an unseen character and used our Success Criteria to complete our tasks.

The children always have access to the iPad to take photos of work that they are proud of. Here is a selection from August.

Finally, we have loved getting back outside to Muddy Movers. This week we were showing off our balancing skills. We also have some expert den builders, a regular Mud Kitchen McDonaldโ€™s in operation but most importantly we are having lots of fun playing together.

What a great start to Primary 2! ๐ŸŒŸ

Teddy Bears Picnic

What a fantastic day we had at our teddy bears picnic ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅช๐ŸŽ

We all confidently made our own cheeses or jam sandwich ๐Ÿฅชย  played lots of fun games and were very excited to see the queen ๐Ÿ‘‘

We have all worked hard this year and it was nice to relax and have some fun time together.

Tiny Teachers

Well done Tiny Teachers! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

You are all confident speakers, with clear voices and excellent body language. ย You were able to share your knowledge and interests with your peers and answer any questions. ย You were also an amazing audience, showing good listening skills and able to ask questions to gain more information.

I am so impressed with your organisation and confidence to stand up and speak to the whole class. I loved hearing and learning about space, deathly animals, octopuses, ย Sonic, Mario, cheerleading, gymnastics, karate, football, family holidays, family members and pets and lots more detailed presentations.

Thank you and a HUGE well done!

I think youโ€™re all amazing ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Calderglen Park

We all had such a great day at Calderglen Park on Tuesday. We loved seeing the animals and playing in the park. ย ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜Ž
Today we wrote a diary entry about our trip. We had to include detail about the trip, a feeling, who we went with and sign it off from ourselves. Amazing independent writing Primary One! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“

May 2022

I canโ€™t quite believe weโ€™re already at the end of May and now heading into our last few weeks of Primary 1!

Throughout May we have been very busy in Numeracy learning about data handling, symmetry and telling the time.

ย

We had lots of fun during Sports Day.

We have been learning about life in the past and especially enjoyed creating our own cave people inspired artwork.

After learning about the features of castles we used recyclable materials to build our own castles. Can you see our battlements, draw bridges, flags and arrow slit windows? ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ๐Ÿฐ

We enjoyed our visit to the library, choosing our own book to read in school and we look forward to returning them next week.

Finally, we always enjoy taking our own pictures!

Open Afternoon

A huge thank you to all our adults who popped in today during Open Afternoon. We were all very excited to see you and work on our jubilee artwork with you. Have a wonderful weekend celebrating the queenโ€™s platinum jubilee ย ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ‘‘

Muddy Movers

This week at Muddy Movers the children really enjoyed experimenting with the hula hoop. Adam explored how the hoop could roll, Violet explored different ways she could make it spin and quite a few children enjoyed trying to hula hoop!

There was also obstacle course building and playing โ€˜The Groundย is Lavaโ€™ which gave the children opportunities to develop their balance and take risks with their movements.

There was also lots of fun exploring and playing with friends.

Mini beast hunting and signs of spring ๐Ÿ๐Ÿž๐Ÿ•ท๐ŸŒฑ

Over the last few weeks we have been out looking for signs of spring and enjoying some mini beast hunting.

We found buds on trees, new leaves opening up and pine cones and flowers beginning to grow. Spring is definitely here ๐ŸŒฑโ˜€๏ธ
ย

On our first mini beast hunt we had a checklist to record what we found.

On our second mini beast hunt we really enjoyed using the new magnifying view finders to get a closer look at the bugs we found ๐Ÿ”Ž๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ๐Ÿž๐Ÿ•ท๐ŸฆŸ๐Ÿ”ย We also learned that our new class mate, Myles, is an excellent bug hunter. He found lots of mini beasts and bravely scooped up a dead bee for us all to have a closer look atย ๐Ÿ

ย

This week we went out again, on the childrenโ€™s request to bug hunt using the view finders, but this time we had to draw what we found. ย Adam also found a giant number 10 outside! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
