Maths week baking ⚖️🫐🍌

We have been very busy during maths week this week. We had lots of different activities all linked to maths and we can’t wait to show you our circle art, Kandinsky style that we did collaboratively across Primary 1 and Primary 2.

Our favorite thing that we were so excited for was our baking. We filled our pompom jar, and as a reward Primary 2.1 choose to bake fruit muffins.

We wrote our recipes, using our step by step instructions which we followed today. We also talked about the safety we have when baking or cooking – washing our hands, hair tied back and apron on.

It was so much fun, we were little bakers today. 👨‍🍳🧑‍🍳

First we weighed out our dry ingredients and put in a bowl. ⚖️

Next we weighed and added butter, 2 eggs and vanilla to our dry ingredients.

Then we mix all the ingredients together.

After that we put our mixture in a case, add our fruit and bake for 15 minutes.

Lastly, we let them cool and enjoy eating them. 😋

I can’t wait to cook with you all again. 🎉 Let me know if you bake at home too Primary 2.1 little chefs 🧑‍🍳👨‍🍳

Open afternoon

We loved having all the different family members come into school to see our work we have been doing in Primary 2. It was great having everyone help with different activities based on our topic “Our Local Area”.

We made aerial view maps of our classroom. This was really challenging but with the help of our adults we worked very hard to make these and they look great. 🗺

We have been working hard on our direction skills, giving and following direction. The beebots were a fun way to give directions. We choose a place we would like to go to and directed our bot there. We have continued using these in class today and we are experts now. 🐝

We love to mix our learning. Some children made a great detached house for our French friend Camenbear. We were also able to match up our French colours to different ribbons. 🇫🇷

Lastly I would like to thank all the adults who helped their child pin their house on the map. They were very excited to see everyone’s face on our map. 📍

Thank you very much for coming and visiting out class. We can’t wait to have you come in again soon. 👋

Welcome back to school 📚

Primary 2.1 have been very busy already with their learning.  Everyone has been working hard with our new classroom and have settled in nicely.

We completed lots of activities around our book study of “What the Ladybird Heard” books. We looked at the characters and the different settings of the books. They children made great flying Ladybirds and wanted posters to find the bad men, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len.
A Hugh thank-you to everyone who sent in post cards to school from their holidays. We read the story “What the Ladybird heard on holiday” and then looked at our holidays. It was great fun looking at the different ways that we traveled places. We have them on our wall to look at, feel free to bring in more

They have enjoyed the learning challenges in primary 2. We have been learning about 2D shapes. We have had so much fun using our shapes to make great pieces of work. We made shape pizzas and shape monsters. We showed them off to our class naming all our shapes. 🔴🔷🔺🟪

We have been working very hard with our new spelling sounds. We have creating lots of new words and looked at writing independently with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. I am so impressed with how hard we have been working! ✍️

We started our new science topic of “Waters changing state” . We were able to name where we get water from and we even knew it comes from the clouds to start with. 🌧 We used water to create and art rain drops by spraying water on blue tissue paper. The blue effect is amazing!!! 💧

We were very excited to get to go outside for Muddy Movers since we have our wellie boots. 🥾 Thank-you. We had so much fun creating towers and jumping off. We practiced bending our knees and arms out for balance.

I can’t wait to keep learning with you all. You have been amazing. ⭐️

Just like that, it’s the last month of Primary 1!

We enjoyed our visits to The Foundry library and looking through which books we wanted to borrow📚.

Primary 1 all had a fantastic time at Calderglen for their first school trip. We played in the park, visited the animals and had a picnic on the grass.

We had a lovely Teddy Bears Picnic last week🐻🧺. The class made a cheese or a jam sandwich and we had some fresh fruit to eat for our picnic on the grass🥪. Primary 1 were so lucky to have a special visitor before our sandwiches! We practised our curtseys and bows to the Queen👑. On the grass we played musical statues, pass the parcel and had a dancing competition.

We waved the Queen goodbye in her helicopter🚁!

We enjoyed a special treat on Friday, thank you to the Parent Council for organising🍦☀️.

What a fantastic start to school the class have had⭐️. Thank you so much Primary 1 for all of your hard work this year👏🏻. Thank you to all adults at home for your continued support. Have a fantastic summer holidays☀️,

In Maths,  we have been continuing to work on our information handling and sorting using Carroll Diagrams and colours🌈.

We also learned about tally charts and pictograms. The class were able to gather information about favourite colours from 10 other people in the class and record this in a tally chart. They were then able to display this data using a pictogram📊.

We have enjoyed solving different problems in Maths and using the strategy of acting it out helps us to visualise the problem.

In Literacy, the class have used the Promethean Board to write sentences including the tricky words they have learned✍🏼.

In P.E. we have been working on our hand-eye coordination when hitting the tennis ball with a racquet. We have tried to keep a rally going over the net with a partner, it is quite tricky🏸!

The class engaged well during athletics and liked practising for Sports’ Day!⚽️🏈🎾🏅

During our People in the Past topic, we learned all about cave people and what they have in their caves. The class enjoyed creating these cave markings🛖.

We also learned about toys from the past and enjoyed making our very own cup and ball toy.

A quick month in Primary 1!

On Miss Payne’s return from Montpellier, we looked at the different landmarks there. We noticed there was a replica of the Arc de Triomphe and some of us worked together outside to build our own🇫🇷. This took a lot of communication and problem solving skills.

We have been learning about money in Maths and some of us found some old coins out at Muddy Movers, treasure🥳!

Another way we have been applying Maths outside is by finding things and ordering them in different ways. Here we have ordered them big to small.

Finding creatures🪱!

Some of the class also worked together to create an obstacle course, well done!

In P.E. we have been working on hand-eye co-ordination for tennis🎾.

We have loved being creative in the Art and Loose Parts Areas of the classroom. We have worked with so many different materials, including plasticine, to create different things🧑🏼‍🎨.

We have even practised our French skills. We listened to the colours on a talking tin and used the primary colours to mix these🇫🇷🎨.

We have also showcased our number skills here by making calculations with the loose parts.

In the Library we have been putting on puppet shows🎭.

We have loved exploring shapes in the Maths Area.

Using Maths materials to construct towers!

Practising our volume vocabulary of full, half-full and empty in the water tray🧪💦.

We have been learning about Data Handling and sorting things into different categories like:

  • Colour
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Object
  • Number

In the Message Centre and Literacy area we have been working on our blending and independent reading and writing✍🏼📖.

Well done for all of your hard work Primary 1/1👏🏼☺️!

Spring🌼🌸

Primary 1 have been so busy. We have been working so hard in all areas and are excited to share our great work.

In Muddy Movers we have been enjoying challenges each week. We had excellent team-working and communication skills when building a bus for us all to sit on. We had to make sure there was enough space for everyone to fit🚌.

Also in Muddy Movers, the strong winds blew the roof off of our house. Some of us wanted to help fix this and again showcased super communication and team-working skills. We lifted the roof to try to put it back on. When this didn’t work, we looked for different materials we could use to make a roof and found some wood in the shed🪵!

We enjoyed learning about cave people and explored cave markings outside as well as gathering materials to make our own paintbrushes🖌.

The class loved celebrating World Book Day. We shared the stories we had brought in and Primary 5 came down to our class to read these to us. We also enjoyed joining in with the Where’s Wally Scavenger Hunt and worked well in teams to find them all. We voted for a book we wanted to hear and went to listen to these stories from another teacher. Finally, the day was finished off with a costume parade.

In Maths we have been exploring weight. We sorted different items into categories and also experimented with some balance scales⚖️!

We have also learned about money. The class have enjoyed sorting coins, adding money and exploring money through play💷.

In P.E. the class have been working on balancing, rolling, jumping and landing for gymnastics🤸🏽.

When changing our classroom around, Primary 1 decided on making a French café. They made all of the signs, placemats and menus by themselves based on what they had learned. They even named it after the song we sing with Camembear “Bonjour les amis”🧸🇫🇷!

We are excited to see what we learn in Term 3🤩!

February in Primary 1⭐️

A gentle reminder that all jewellery and earrings should be removed for P.E. Our day for P.E. is a Monday🤸🏼‍♂️.

We started this month off with Back to Front Uniform Day!

In writing, we have been giving story-mapping a go. This helps us build on story sequencing skills, detailed drawings and retelling a story✍🏼📖.

We have been continuing to work on our addition stories and have enjoyed making these with the different resources around the classroom➕.

In Maths, we have also been learning about direction. We created our own direction sequences and enjoyed testing these out on the BlueBots. Some of us decided to swap with a partner and test out their directions too🗺🧭!

We have been investigating positional language and enjoyed using our class teddy ‘Arthur’ to explore this. We enjoyed putting Arthur on top of, under, next to, behind and in front of the table.

Our new Maths topic is measure. On Friday, we experimented with measuring worms and other non-standard units of measure to find out how long we were📏.

Primary 1/1 have also been learning about time and telling o’clock times. We made our own clock and changed the time on this🕰!

For our topic, we have been learning about our Local Area. The class have learned about different types of houses and experimented with different materials to build some of these🏠🏙.

We have started brushing our teeth in class and can brush all of the teeth in our mouth, making sure we reach the ones all the way at the back. We do this everyday after lunch for 2 minutes to our teeth brushing song🦷🪥.

The Beginning of 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣

Primary 1/1 are back and have settled right back into our class routines and are working hard as ever!

We have been working on our digital skills. From this term, we will be accessing our DigiSpace every Tuesday to begin developing computer skills. The class have learned the importance of keeping passwords safe and have all been able to log into the computers using our class login. In just three weeks the class can also open the internet, click and drag to play games, close a window and log out. We love digital technology🖥⌨️!

At Muddy Movers, we have been getting back into team-working and using clear communication with others. Some of us made a water run together and used various parts to do this. The class love being inquisitive and exploring the areas outdoors🍃.

Making a worm pool🪱.

Cementing the mud kitchen back together with mud🧱.

Exploring push and pull forces with a car ramp🚗.

Trying to balance!

We have been discussing different emotions in Health and Wellbeing and sharing what makes us feel this way. We identified times we have felt happy, sad, scared, excited and worried. We read ‘The Worry Monster,’ story and we have our very own Worry Monster in class🌈. The class are free to write or draw worries, then the monster eats these! We have also identified ways we can help each other when we feel worried and identified people we can talk to when we feel this way.

Primary 1 are currently learning about our local area. We took a trip round to the big playground to explore our surroundings and compare our playground to this one. The class also made excellent links with Maths. We are learning direction and when showing the class the school on Google Earth, some were able to press the arrows to give directions to their house🗺. Super work!

We are working on our fitness in P.E. and have enjoyed stretching, races and games🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏽.

For Robert Burns’ Day, we learned about the poet and listened to some songs and stories in Scots Language. The class enjoyed listening to Scottish music and learning some Scottish dance moves💃🏼! We even had a piece of shortbread to celebrate🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

With Chinese New Year coming up, the class made Chinese lanterns with Mrs McMillan and have enjoyed exploring some traditional Chinese household items🇨🇳🏮.

In our Maths area we have enjoyed exploring these new, colourful shapes. These have been used on our light box to mix colours, used as goggles to see things in different colours, used for building things and for making patterns and faces😁☹️🔺◽️.

Here’s to a great 2022✨.
