Languages Week Scotland 2024

LANGUAGES WEEK SCOTLAND 2024

We had a great week learning about languages from all over the world.

We researched countries we would like to visit and made a list of our favourite places and why we would like to visit them.

We looked at home for items made in different countries.  We brought them into school and listened to the language from that country.

We thought about food from around the world and C went to an Italian restaurant called ORO.  He asked the waiter what the word meant and found out it was gold.  C said his meal was delicious!

We played a game on Kahoot about different countries and languages.  It was great fun!

Book cover quiz – this was quite tricky!  We had to guess the title of the book by looking at the cover and then guess the language the title was written in.  Great effort from everyone 📚😊

Robert Burns – 25th January 2024

We celebrated the birthday of Robert Burns on the 25th of January.

We tasted Scottish cheese and oatcakes, sang Auld Lang Syne, learned ‘The Selkirk grace’ and made information posters about the famous Scottish Bard.

It was a busy day!

Science-Magnetic forces

Today we explored the forces exerted by magnets.  The children identified examples of how magnets are used in everyday life, such as their fridge.  We had a game of repel and attract where the children were either the north pole or the south pole on a magnet and they had to find others in the class according to the instruction.

Finally they investigated magnetic and non magnetic items in the class and we talked about what each item was made of.

December 2023 ⛄🎅

We’ve had a very busy December so far!

Winter walks

We went on a winter scavenger hunt and the only thing we didn’t find were animal prints.  We are going to keep looking though!

Learning about Tessellation …

We discovered that tiling with ovals or circles doesn’t work very well!  We had great discussions about tiling patterns and which shapes worked well.

Healthy Eating

Dress Rehearsal

We were brilliant!

Salt Dough Snowmen

What a mess we made!!  But our snowmen look amazing!  Watch out for them coming home ⛄❄⛄

Super Spelling …

Brilliant team work when we shared the spelling resources.  What a great way to learn our spelling words! 😊

GREAT WORK P3/1.

YOU’VE BEEN A BUSY BUNCH THIS MONTH!

Science

Primary 3 were making and testing predictions about dissolving in water. They talked about colour change when the water mixes with the ink. Next, they predicted what might happen if they change the size and pattern on their drawings.

Topical Science

This week the children have been learning to contribute to discussion on the latest scientific news.   We started the lesson by talking about the role of  a scientist and what a scientist may look and sound like.  They were asked to draw a scientist and explain their reasons. 17 of them drew a male character and 3 drew a female character.  This brought about a discussion about famous/popular scientists and we will explore this at a later date.

We then watched videos from TigTag where they learned about plastic pollution and Volcanos.  They talked to each other about ways they can improve plastic pollution.  They worked together to read through a news article of their own and reported back to the class about their findings.

November 2023 🍂

We all had great fun on Friday 17th November when we participated in activities to raise money for the Children in Need charity.

We loved singing, dancing, telling jokes and performing gymnastic routines during our Pudsey Talent Show.  Well done everyone!
