Welcome to P4 🍎

Hello and welcome to our Primary 4 blog. Here you will find photos and information about what we have been learning in school. We are not able to share photos of pupils at the moment but check back soon for a photo of everyone looking very smart on our first day in Primary 4.

[Class photo coming soon]

We have settled into school well after a relaxing summer holiday. We are happy to see our friends and teachers everyday, and we are getting used to school routines.

Our PE day is on a Wednesday and PE kits can be worn to school on this day. Reading and Mental Maths homework should be completed every day. Spelling is due on Friday.

We made ‘all about me’ hearts during our P4 taster day with Mrs Denny. We shared information about ourselves, our favourite things and our families.

We worked together to make a class charter as part of our Rights Respecting School Status. We chose 6 rights from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and voted on a theme. The most popular theme was monsters.

We loved taking part in a team STEM challenge on the first day. We worked so well together to build a big tower and we even added some extra cups sitting in different directions!

Art

In art this term we have been exploring different techniques, including using straws to blow paint to create spring blossom trees. We also made links to maths and art creating concentric circles drawings. We explored pointillism to make personalised trees using our handprints. Thanks to all of Primary 3 this year for their hard work.  I  going to miss you and good luck in Primary 4! From Mrs Britton 🤩

Summerlee Museum

Primary 3 had a great trip to Summerlee Museum. We were able to explore houses from different periods of time. We went down a mine and it was very dark and a little scary. We couldn’t believe that children of our age used to have to work in there. We had a workshop where we studied the 1980’s. We looked at toys form the 80’s, done a workout and even got to try on clothes from the era too.

Sports Day

Another brilliant Sports Day!  We had potted sports in our House teams in the morning and then the flat races and relay races in the afternoon.  Mrs Britton and Mrs McArthur even took part in the teacher/pupil race!

Well done P3/1.

Dams for Darnley Ranger!

On Wednesday we had Rennie the Dams for Darnley Ranger into our school to take us on a Plant Safari o help us to complete our final RSPB Wild Challenge. We identified lots of plants and in particular the tress that are in our school grounds. He told us great knowledge about the tress and helped us to identify them by looking at their leaves and their bark. It was a bit wet but still good fun. Thank you Rennie!!

Art – Clay Roman Tiles

We created Roman clay tiles.  We moulded the clay and created a design inspired from Roman mosaic tiles. We then painting our clay tiles and some of us decided to add beading to our final design. Have a look!

Art Mono Printing

In art this month we have been learning to develop skills in mono printing through experimentation.  We used foam to create a mono print using a print roller. Our inspiration was fish patterns.

Solo Talks!

This week has been our final week of solo talks! A and C told us all about their dog and showed us some lovely photos. L shared information about his hobby of football and C described the activities that she did on her birthday trip to London. O talked about his pet cat and A shared great information and photos of her dog. S detailed a lot of information about her gymnastics club and L explained all about his favorite Disney character. Well done everyone!!⭐️
