We have had a focus on symmetry during maths week. We went outside to try to create symmetry using natural materials. The wind caused a little bit of a problem but we were still successful. We then came instead to create summetry using lego. Here are our creations!
It was lovely to see so many visitors in our classroom for the Open Afternoon. The children enjoyed working with our guests to create some brilliant islands for Katie Morag to travel round. They were also very excited to sing their song and they performed it so well!
We are getting used to the big move round the corridor to Primary 3. In Maths we have been learning our multiplication tables and have been using cubes to help us. We have been discovering interesting facts about bees and we have made factctfiles about them. In Art we have been studying famous artists and trying out the job of being an illustrator for the Paddington books. As yet we can not have our faces on the blog so here is some of our work on the walls!
Our first art lesson in primary 3 was inspired by a famous artist called Wassily Kandinsky. We looked at his painting with squares with concentric circles and talked about shape and colour. We then created our own version using oil pastels!
Ready for another year in Cross Arthurlie.
We have been exploring Mandarin language and culture with Mrs Cao. We have been learning how to say some greetings such as hello and goodbye in Mandarin. This week we learned days of the week and how to write the date in Mandarin.
Follow the Youtube link if you would like to practice greetings at home.

Although it was a short week last week we were very busy in Primary 2. We visited the library on Monday to select a book to check out and keep in class for the next two weeks.
On Tuesday Rennie, the park ranger visited to talk about his role in the community. We loved learning about the types of wildlife that can be found in Barrhead dams. In the afternoon we went on a Mini beast hunt in the school groups to discover what lives in our grounds. We were excited to find all sorts of insects including worms, ladybirds, bees and spiders.
Primary 2 had an absolute ball at the Science Centre today. We loved exploring the different activities on each level.
