World Book Day 📕 📖

Today we celebrated World Book Day in class. We joined in a live lesson with the BBC hearing lots of book recommendations. We also had a sixty second read and took part in an emoji quiz to guess the famous book titles. Our Maths also had a reading theme where we had a relay race to answer word problems based on stories we know. In the afternoon we visited our P1 Buddies and played some outdoor games with them . Next we went indoors and turned off the lights and read to our Buddies before making bookmarks with them. 📕

Badminton

This week in PE we were practising skills for badminton. Since the shuttlecock can be tricky to control we practised, first of all, with balloons. It was lovely to see all the balloons in the air as we practised using our rackets.

Cyber Scotland Week 2025

Today we took part in a live lesson to learn about cyber security to find ways to keep ourselves and our devices safe online. We learned about new technologies such as biometrics that work to keep us safe. Biometrics use unique features about us to keep our devices safe  e.g. by taking a recording of our voice or a copy of our fingerprint to keep our information secure.  We also learned about careers in technology that we might choose to do in the future.

XA Factor 2025 ⭐️

It’s XA Factor time again! We certainly have lots of talent in P5/1 with an impressive six acts from our class performing in this afternoon’s talent contest. Good luck to all our performers!  👏🏻

Lights, Camera, Action 🎬 🍿 🎥

As part of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel study Primary 5 was tasked with working in groups to create a 20 second commercial to advertise a new chocolate bar! 🍫  The children worked together to decide on their chosen product and then used sticky notes to create a storyboard of ideas for their advert. They then rehearsed their script before filming their final advert.
You can see them below.  🍿

Well done Innis 🥋

Congratulations to Innis Adams who has recently achieved green belt at his martial arts club, Junior I-Kickers.  Well done Innis and thank you for sharing with the class. You spoke very clearly and were very knowledgeable. 👏

Happy New Year

Primary 5 have settled well into the new term.  We have been learning about new year traditions around the world and have also been learning about Chinese New Year. During Art we have created some lovely posters to show our knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese New Year, and these have been entered into a national competition. A few of our posters can be seen below:

We started the year off with a couple of weeks of Fitness sessions in PE but have now moved onto Gymnastics. We are lucky to have some skilled gymnasts in our class who regularly attend classes outside of school. It has been fun to have the Kelvin Frame and other equipment out where we have been practising a range of skills including, balancing, climbing, rolls, and jumps.

In Mathematics the pupils in the Diamonds have been learning all about fractions. We can identify fractions, find fractions of amounts and find equivalences. We often complete tasks on the chromebooks to practise our skills or complete work in our jotters. The task below shows a group task where we were using our knowledge of fractions to complete jigsaws.

In Literacy we have started our class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have also been having a focus on poetry in writing and had good fun thinking of lots of Scots words when writing poems in the Scots language. In fact the bonnie wee lads and lassies in P5 did a braw job of their poems!

Christmas Art

Primary 5 enjoyed a Buddying session with their little friends in Primary One yesterday. We helped the boys and girls in Primary 1 to create some Christmas Art. Together we created Christmas trees using chalks and pastels. It is always lovely to see how supportive the class are with the younger children.

Have a look at some of the finished art work.
