Final Term 🇯🇵 🚴 📕

It’s hard to believe we are already into our final term of Primary 5. This term will be a busy one with our school trip and sports day to look forward to. Primary 5 will also be participating in level one of Bikeability later in the term and so are hoping for good weather. No doubt we will meet up with our Buddies too which we always enjoy.

This term in Social Studies we will be learning about Japan. We will find out about the landscape and culture of the country and will be creating some artwork on the theme of Japan. In languages we will be learning to talk about clothes in French and we are lucky enough to be having some more Mandarin too. In PE we have started a block of short tennis and hope to practise athletics.
We have already started our new class novel, in Literary, called Christophe’s Story. It tells the story of a young boy who leaves his home country of Rwanda for a new life in England. We spent some time in our first lesson finding out a little about the country of Rwanda and its location in the world. Chapter one of the novel was quite intriguing and so we are looking forward to finding out more about Christophe’s story.

Measurement

Primary 5 have been outside measuring the perimeter of the playground in groups.  Lots of discussions about jobs that need to measure the perimeter.

Fair Trade 🍌 🍫 ☕️

This term P5/1 has been learning about Fair Trade and the positive impact buying fair trade goods can have on the lives of the farmers who produce the goods. We have been busy making posters and producing presentations to help spread the word. And today we took our campaign into the playground where we created chalk art to spread the message to other classes and families. We hope lots of parents saw our artwork at pickup time and might be persuaded to give fair trade products a try. 😊

Big Walk and Wheel 🏍️ 🚲 🛴

Today we had fun in the playground on our bikes and scooters taking part in the cycling events organised by the Junior Road Safety team. P5/1 were first out and enjoyed trying the slow race, slalom and the obstacle course.

Fun Friday 🥋🤗

Primary 5 have had a fun day today starting with our first Judo session at the Foundry. We enjoyed learning about the origins of Judo and trying out some basic moves. We are already excited for our next visit.
On our return to school we participated in some fun activities as part of our fundraising for Comic Relief. We enjoyed balloon races, knocking down skittles, some colouring and more.
Happy Friday! 😃

World Book Day 📕 📖

Today we celebrated World Book Day in class. We joined in a live lesson with the BBC hearing lots of book recommendations. We also had a sixty second read and took part in an emoji quiz to guess the famous book titles. Our Maths also had a reading theme where we had a relay race to answer word problems based on stories we know. In the afternoon we visited our P1 Buddies and played some outdoor games with them . Next we went indoors and turned off the lights and read to our Buddies before making bookmarks with them. 📕

Badminton

This week in PE we were practising skills for badminton. Since the shuttlecock can be tricky to control we practised, first of all, with balloons. It was lovely to see all the balloons in the air as we practised using our rackets.

Cyber Scotland Week 2025

Today we took part in a live lesson to learn about cyber security to find ways to keep ourselves and our devices safe online. We learned about new technologies such as biometrics that work to keep us safe. Biometrics use unique features about us to keep our devices safe  e.g. by taking a recording of our voice or a copy of our fingerprint to keep our information secure.  We also learned about careers in technology that we might choose to do in the future.

XA Factor 2025 ⭐️

It’s XA Factor time again! We certainly have lots of talent in P5/1 with an impressive six acts from our class performing in this afternoon’s talent contest. Good luck to all our performers!  👏🏻
