Animations

In ICT we were keen to learn about animation. Animation is when drawings and objects look like they are moving. We used a website called Sketch to practise animating our own characters. First we drew a picture of our character and coloured it in.ย  Next we took a picture of our drawing and uploaded it to the website. We followed the steps on the website to make sure our character drawing met the requirements for the animation to work. We loved playing around on the website using the animation tool to bring our characters to life! ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ’ป

World Book Day

At the start of the month we celebrated World Book Day. World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. Itโ€™s also aย celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) itโ€™s a celebration of reading.

We spent our day doing a range of reading activities and throughly enjoyed it.

We took part in a quiz where we had to identify books based on a section of their front covers. Bonus points were given if we knew the author of the books.

We completed a booklet all about our favourite book in which we wrote diary entries, author interviews, summaries, character profiles, word searches and more.

We enjoyed taking part in a Whereโ€™s Wally scavenger hunt in our school corridors.

We worked in pairs and used drama skills to perform a scene from a book which the rest of the class had to guess.

We also enjoyed choosing a story to be read by another teacher in the school. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽ‰

XA Factor

A huge well done to Isla and Georgia who took part in the school talent show, the XA factor, on Friday last week. They wore beautiful matching outfits to perform their highland dance which they did with great confidence. The audience and judges were very impressed! ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ

ICT

In ICT we have been learning to use different tools on Microsoft Word. Last week we learned how to use the shape tool to insert shapes and change their size, colour and position. We used this tool to create pictures of Viking homes and longships as part of our Vikings topic.

The Vikings

We are thoroughly enjoying our Vikings topic this term. To begin with we didnโ€™t have much previous knowledge about the vikings but over the course of the last few weeks we have enjoyed learning lots of interesting information.

For those of you who donโ€™t know, the Vikings were people who lived in Northern Europe during the Middle Ages. They originally settled in the Scandinavian lands that are today the countries of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Vikings were also known as the Norsemen. Norsemen means ‘people from the North’ They were great travellers and sailed to other parts of Europe, where they traded, raided, and often settled.

The Vikings made longships for exploration and raiding. Longships were long, narrow boats designed for speed. We followed step by step instructions on how to draw longships. We used pastels and pens to colour our boats, sea and sky.ย  We worked together to create a huge Viking longship for our class display and love how this turned out! ๐Ÿ›ถ๐Ÿ›ก

Electricity

Our science topic this term is Electricity. We discussed the dangers of using electricity and ways in which we can stay safe when using it at home or at school. We designed posters to be displayed in the school infants corridor as we felt that the younger pupils in the school might not be as aware of the dangers as we are.

We have also been learning to combine components to make an electrical circuit. We learned what symbols represent each component in a circuit and used these to draw a circuit for a torch. After learning how to draw a circuit, we practised making one. We used wires, batteries, bulbs, buzzers, motors and switches. We enjoyed working in groups to combine our circuits and make even bigger ones. It is important to remember that if there is a break in the circuit, it will not carry the electricity through.ย ๐Ÿ”‹โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ”Œ

Burns Day

On Wednesday we celebrated Burns Day. Five years after Robert Burns died, a group of his friends got together to remember him and his poetry. The tradition became established and now, every year on his birthday, 25th January, Scots all round the world celebrate Burns Night with a Burns Supper.

We had a Burns themed morning in class where we took part in all things Robert Burns.

Activity 1: We read the story of Robert Burns and his life. Our task was to sequence the story by cutting out each sentence and putting it in the correct order.

Activity 2: We followed step by step instructions to draw a portrait of Robert Burns.

Activity 3: We used the chrome books to research a typical Burns supper menu and created our own.

Activity 4: We translated Scots words to English.

We listened to Auld Lang Syne and enjoyed singing along. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ๐Ÿง†๐ŸŽถ

Christmas fun

The month of December has been busy with lots of fun winter and Christmas themed lessons including art, writing and numeracy. We made Christmas crafts to sell at our Christmas fair, rehearsed for our Christmas concert and service but the most fun was our Christmas party. We wore our party clothes to school, played games including musical arms and the Mars bar game and took photos using selfie props. We also danced and had snacks whilst watching a movie with our friends. Wishing all of our friends and family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ’–

Christmas concert

Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas concert. This year the theme for our school concert was Christmas movies, we chose the movie Elf. We loved singing and performing to all of our families and friends and hope you enjoyed watching too. Check our our โ€˜elfie below๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŽ„
