Fun day

Today was Cross Arthurlie fun day, Primary 2’s theme was a day at the seaside. In the morning we made different crafts and we visited the fun fair, where we played lots of different games such as hit the bulls eye, knock the cups and fish out the rubber ducks. Primary 7 also organised some outdoor stations and races for the whole school. After lunch, we had a visit from the ice cream van and we all got a tub of ice cream! What a busy day we all had, it really was a great way to celebrate the end of Primary 2. Thank you for all your hard work this year, we will miss you!

Then and Now

Today we learned how to play some popular childhood games from the past. Some of us already knew these games and others were learning them for the first time. We played marbles, snap, memory game, the hoop and stick and dominos. Marbles was most people’s favourite!

Now and Then

We have had a busy few weeks settling back into school. We have started our new IDL, Now and Then. Today, we enjoyed looking at artefacts and making predictions of what we thought each object was called and used for. Take a look at our pictures below and see if you know what each object is. The answers are at the bottom of the post.

Object 1 is a rug beater. Object 2 is a school desk. Object 3 is a wash board. Object 4 is a hoover. Object 5 is a radio. Object 6 is a potato masher. Object 7 is a school bag. Object 8 is binoculars. Object 9 is a infant toy. Object 10 is a television. Object 11 is a phone.

Christmas Sleigh Challenge

This morning the boys and girls were challenged to build a sleigh for Santa. The sleigh had to fit two presents, stand on its own and have a seat for Santa (Buddy the elf visited to try it out for Santa). Pupils chose to work individually, in pairs or in small groups. They planned their sleigh on whiteboards and discussed which construction material they were going to use. Everyone was successful in building their sleigh!

Following a Map

Today, we had lots of fun following a map to find stars hidden round the outdoor area. When we found a star we labelled that section of our map.  We have been learning that a good map is a map that is labelled clearly.  When we got back to class we added any finishing touches to our map.

Creating a Map

We listened carefully to the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” and took notes on our whiteboard about the places the characters passed on their bear hunt. We used our notes to create a map. Check out our fantastic maps below.

Literacy Learning

Literacy-
We have been learning about the alphabet. We have been playing matching games to help us learn what each capital and lowercase letter looks like. We will continue to explore letters and will practice our letter formation.

As we are now in Primary 2 we get spelling homework. In class we do lots of Active Spelling to help us learn how to spell words. Some boys and girls were using magnetic letters to spell words.

‘ch’ was one of our spelling rules so the children were challenged to write ‘ch’ words and our tricky words with chalk.

Outdoor Learning

Muddy movers has been one of our favourite activities since returning to school. It is lots of fun, plus it helps us develop our gross motor skills which in turn improves our fine motor skills such as our pencil grip. We have been learning to work together to build obstacle courses and risk assess to ensure we can all cross the obstacle course safely.

Check out some of the pictures below. We were learning to keep our balance so it is important to….

Oran- “stand up tall”

Mollie- “hold our arms out”

Georgia- “face forwards”
