Thank you to the members of our class who remembered to bring in one of their favourite books today to celebrate World Book Day. Each person was able to tell us a little about our their book and why they like it so much.
We also took part in an emoji quiz to guess some of our favourite children’s books. Due to the marvel of technology we used artificial intelligence to allow us to take part in a question and answer session with Road Dahl and Mr Wonka! We each thought of a really interesting question to ask and got some interesting responses.

World Book Day
Persuasive Adverts

Willy Wonka requested our help. We were required to create a twenty second tv commercial to advertise one of his new sweet inventions that would persuade people to buy it. Firstly we shared our ideas in groups. Next we created a storyboard for our adverts then we rehearsed and filmed them. Take a look at this final advertisement from the Brilliant Buckets.

Science – chemical reactions
We have been learning about physical and chemical reactions.
We observed what happened when we mixed bicarbonate of soda with vinegar. We saw bubbles forming and then the balloon placed on top of the bottle inflated proving that a gas had been released. We all enjoyed seeing a real chemical reaction up close.
Languages Week Scotland
As part of Languages Week Scotland we have been learning greetings from countries around the world. We have also taken part in a Mandarin challenge to extend our knowledge of China. Lastly we have been learning some British Sign Language. Below you can see us performing the Rainbow song in BSL.
XA Factor 2024
Good luck to both Georgia and Ronnie who have successfully made it through the auditions to today’s final of the XA Factor. Ronnie will be displaying his DJ skills and Georgia will be performing gymnastics. We wish them both lots of luck.
Good luck also to Ava and Isla who will be opening the show with the Cross Arthurlie Dance Club!
A little while later…
Both P5 acts put in strong performances and we are very proud of them!
Gymnastics
On Wednesday we had our first session of Gymnastics. We first of all discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe and looking out for others by ensuring we check our equipment regularly. We worked in small groups and visited different stations allowing us the opportunity to practise balances, rolls and flips using the equipment. Many of us showed lots of creativity and confidence in our movements.
Fractions
In Primary 5 we have been taking the fear out of fractions and inserting the fun. Some of us have been learning how to simplify and make equivalent fractions. This week we have also been learning to calculate fractions of amounts. We worked together in groups to complete fraction jigsaws.
Fitness Sessions
Primary 5 have started the new year with some fitness sessions in PE to help us to stay active and healthy in 2024. We have paired up with a partner and worked our way round a circuit challenging ourselves to build fitness and stamina.

The Plague!
P5 are creating freeze frames of the story they have need listening to on the plague. Can you spot people putting things into a bonfire?
It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas

Well done Primary 5 for working so hard to learn your song words and lines for the Christmas Concert. Well done to our dancers too for learning their steps. It was great to see everyone enjoying the performance last night and singing loudly and confidently. I’m sure our audience enjoyed the evening as well.
