Primary 6/1 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Primary 3’s RSPB Fundraiser. Well done to Mrs Powell and her class for organising and hosting us!
Thanks to all of those who were able to make it along to Open Afternoon. We loved showing off everything we have been learning and having you in the class for the afternoon! Here are some of our Optical Illusion Artwork:
We have been learning about the importance of water and how to clean water. We collected dirty water and made predictions about how we would clean the water using household materials. We identified that a combination of filter paper, cloths and sieves cleaned the water the best, but we still would not drink it!
Primary 6 have been learning about pneumatics and created their own Christmas themed design. They worked well together to open and close the lid of their box using air pressure.
On Thursday last week we had a special visit from the Elves and Reindeer!
P6 have been learning about light and shadows. They made shadow puppets to block the light from the screen and create a short story based on well known stories.
Primary 6 have enjoyed learning about space. they measured the distance between each planet, explored the size of each planet and used papier mâché to make models of the planets.
In Primary 6 we have been learning all about being responsible Digital Citizens. We have discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe online and also how we should behave online.
We completed an experiment where the class had to squeeze all of the toothpaste out of the tube in two minutes. Easy!!
After this, the class then had to get all of the toothpaste back into the tube using just two cocktail sticks. Not so easy…
From this experiment, the class discussed all about what they post and share online. We had a chat around what a Digital Footprint is and that all of our behaviours online don’t wash away like normal footprints. We made connections with this and our toothpaste experiment and came to the conclusion:
It is easy to say and share things online quickly, like it was to empty the tube of toothpaste.
It is much harder to erase what we have said and shared online after we have shared it, much like it was to clean up all of the toothpaste.
We will be responsible digital citizens and show positive digital behaviours!
Primary 6/1 then made posters about how we can have a positive digital footprint.
During Maths Week Scotland we have had a week filled of Maths inspired activities.
We looked at the art of Piet Mondrian and used Maths materials to imitate his artwork. Each child rolled the dice 3 times to create a number in the hundreds. We then drew round hundreds, tens and ones to create our art. Then we used the same colours as Piet Mondrian,: yellow, red and blue.
A very exciting piece of news!
We completed an Escape Room as a class and have won the whole school a subscription to 0maths which is worth £840!
Well done Primary 6/1, I am so proud!
Have a well deserved September Weekend,
Miss Payne
Primary 6/1 are off to a great start in our new classroom.
We have spent a long time discussing our rights and deciding our responsibilities in upholding these rights as a class. We selected the Emoji theme:
Primary 6 have started to learn about the 7 Elements of Art. Everyone created a piece of artwork displaying all 7 elements.
We had a whole focus on the element of Line where we all experimented drawing different types of lines. Some of us had a go at “taking a line for a walk” inspired by the artist Paul Klee where we completed a continuous line drawing without lifting our pen from the page.
Yesterday we enjoyed a great trip to the Glasgow Science Centre. We had been preparing in advance for our visit by learning about body systems and we got to learn more about the the vital organs of the body during the theatre show. We also had lots of time to explore the three floors of the Science Centre and to try out lots of fun activities. Below is a little sample of the things we got up to.
