Jubilee Menus

We have been learning about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. We researched the different events that were going to take place around the country to celebrate. We decided to help plan the menu for the Queen’s Platinum Party, which was held in Buckingham Palace. We used the Sainsbury’s website to choose starters, mains and desserts to serve at the party. Next we used a calculator to calculate the cost of each course. Have a look at our delicious jubilee menus below. 👑🍽

Shrove Tuesday

Today we learned about Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day. It is the last day before Lent begins. This is the Christian period leading up to Easter, when people often give up something.

We took part in a quiz to test how well we remembered how other countries around the world celebrate Pancake day and some of the traditions they follow.

In numeracy we worked in groups to solve a ‘Pancake Pincher Mystery.’ We had to solve the clues to figure out who took a bite from each pancake during Peter’s party at the Pancake Pantry. We then solved pancake menu challenges and coloured in pancakes according to the fraction.

Our favourite part was when we got to eat pancakes! Most of us chose chocolate spread as our topping and enjoyed eating the pancakes whilst working through our pancake maths challenges. We wish we could have pancakes during every maths lesson!🥞

Animal family poems

We have been learning about similes. A simile is used to compare things using the words ‘as’ or ‘like’. We wrote animal family poems where we compared our family members to animals.

We used symmetry skills to draw the other half of an animal photo. This was quite challenging! We used a mirror to study the other half of the face first. Next we drew the outline of the animal. After that we added in the smaller details and coloured the animal using pastels. We are extremely impressed by how well our animal drawings turned out. You can’t tell some of them are drawings, they look like real photographs!🤩 We love how our writing wall turned out. Zoom into have a read at our poems.

Maths Week Scotland

As part of Maths Week Scotland we completed many different maths activities.

We used origami skills to make a fortune teller filled with lots of maths questions which we enjoyed asking one another.

We drew half a symmetrical picture and swapped with a partner who completed the other half of our picture.

We completed a coordinate grid by cutting and sticking the animals on the correct grid references.

We used cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows to create 3D shape models.

We used thousands, hundreds, tens and units blocks to build a palace and then had to calculate its total value.

We created tessellation art by drawing round 2D shapes to create a tile pattern.

Welcome to Primary 4

Hello and welcome to our Primary 4 blog. Here you will find photos and information about what we have been learning in school. ✏️

We have settled into school well after a relaxing summer holiday and are glad to be back to more normal school routines and seeing our friends and teachers everyday. ☺️

Our PE day is on a Wednesday and spelling, reading and mental maths homework are issued every Monday and due on Friday. 📚

Here is a photo of our classroom and some of the work we have been doing.

We made these all about me posters during our P4 taster day with Miss Aslam. We shared information about our favourite things, families and characteristics.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

We created calculations as part of our maths figure me out challenge. By solving the calculation you will reach the answer to our questions. ✖️➗

We enjoyed hearing about one another’s summer holiday and writing about them using descriptive vocabulary. 🌞

We worked together to make a class charter as part of our Rights Respecting School Status. We chose 6 rights from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and voted on a theme. The most popular theme was animals. 🐾

We were inspired by the work of a famous French painter, Claude Monet. We studied his art work and used different materials to create our own. 👨🏼‍🎨

Keep an eye on our blog to see what we get up to in Primary 4🙂
