Christmas Party

Below are some photos from our Christmas Party day. We loved watching the pantomime online, wearing our own clothes and playing lots of fun games at our class Christmas party. Our favourite games were musical arms and the Mars bar game.๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽŠ

Christmas Crafts

We had a great afternoon making hot chocolate reindeer cones for our Christmas craft this year. These were really simple yet fun to make. โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿ”ด

We used the following resources:

  • Clear cone bags
  • Red pom poms
  • Brown pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes
  • Hot chocolate
  • Mini marshmallows

We also decorated Christmas bags for our crafts whilst listening to Christmas music. ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽถ

Building a house stem challenge

This weeks stem challenge was to build a house which would withstand strong winds. This was part of our learning about climate change. We discussed how heavy rainfall, flooding and strong winds are some of the effects of climate change and we looked at real photographs of how these have destroyed peopleโ€™s homes.

We worked in groups using a variety of materials including cardboard, straws, lollipop sticks, string, polystyrene, scissors and sellotape.

Once we finished building our homes we tested if they could withstand the wind created by a hair dryer. ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿš๐ŸŒง

Mackintosh Rose

As part of our Scotland topic, we studied the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and sculptor.ย We followed step by step instructions to draw and colours his famous โ€˜Makintosh Rose.โ€™ We love how these turned out to look.๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐ŸŽจ

Children in need day

On Friday the 19th of November, our school took part in Children in Need’s Pudsey Day. We wore yellow or Pudsey themed clothes to school, had a toy and book sale and played games and sports. We raised lots of money to donate to Children in Need. The Children in Need charity aims to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential. โญ๏ธ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’›

Stem fun

This week we worked in groups to complete different STEM challenges. We discussed the importance of team work, communication, problem solving and creativity before completing each activity.

Challenge 1: What is the strongest boat you can make using kitchen foil and no other materials?ย We enjoyed testing how many marbles our boats could hold before they sank. โ›ต๏ธ

Challenge 2: Using a water dropper, how many drops of water can you fit on different coins? ๐Ÿช™

Challenge 3: What is the tallest tower you can make with one pack of cards? ๐Ÿƒโ™ฃ๏ธThis was definitely the most challenging of them all!

Challenge 4: How long can you make a paper chain using only one sheet of paper, scissors and glue? ๐Ÿ“„๐Ÿ–‡

Judo

On Friday we were invited to attend a Judo session organised by Sporting Judo Barrhead at the Barrhead Foundry. We werenโ€™t too sure what to expect as most of us had never taken part in judo before but we absolutely loved it! We enjoyed watching the instructors demonstrate some judo movements and then carrying them out with our partners. We also learned the Japanese terms for start, go and stop. We are looking forward to session two later on this week.๐Ÿฅ‹

A promise to our planet

After learning about COP 26 and the events which took place in Glasgow around climate change, we discussed the changes we could make to our day to day lives to reduce our carbon footprint. We each decided on three changes we would make and wrote these as promises to our planet. ย Click on the video links to listen to some of our promises.ย ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š
