Decembers Post

Hi Parents we have lots to update you on!

Castle and Bridges

Our Topic is Castles and Bridges and we have been learning and share our knowledge about them .  We were in a group of 5 and we all made some castles. We have all worked so hard with making the castles and we put so much hard effort into them. We  created them by learning about attachment techniques, these techniques helped us build strong castles., our challenge was to use at least two of the 4 we had learnt about. Everyone did a great job of building and worked well in their teams.

Salt Dough

We all made a Christmas craft using salt dough. The materials we used were, stencils, food colouring, flour, water and salt. Before they dried we put 3 thumb prints then we let them dry. When they dried we painted the thumb prints like baubles on a tree. We hope you liked them and hope some of you have them hanging on your tree!

Maths

We have been working hard during maths and completing lots of problems solving tasks. We have had different challenged that we we work on then when we are done we complete our targets, these help us practice the learning that we have already focused on.

Class Prize

Everyone had been really good at getting tidied up quickly and we managed to get 10 stars in the jar! We had a class prize and everyone could bring in any teddy of their choice but not too big. We had so much fun showing each other what we had brought in, everyone was smiling and laughing we all had an amazing time!

Party

On Tuesday we had our party in the afternoon we played  lots of  games like pin the carrot on the snowman, musical statues and corners.

Writing and Art

During art we all got a chance to paint a wonderful snowing setting, this helped us a lot with our writing as it helped us imagine what our setting would look like. We had to use our imagination to describe what we saw, heard and felt. We even came up with some similes and alliteration to use in our writing.

We want to wish you a happy holidays and hope it is filled with lots of fun and happiness!

We now have  a whiteboard table to help us with our maths, we are set challenges or challenge each other. We have also been creating 3D shapes with playdoh and spaghetti.

Scottish Wars of Independence

We dressed up as Scottish noblemen and women and  signed the Ragman’s Roll. We are now going to move onto bridges and castles for our next topic.

Spooky Stories

We have created a spooky stories with many chapters! We have worked so hard on them and got the chance to read it to each other. We have them home with us so we can share them with YOU!

Climate Change

We have been learning about climate change. We have been gather facts and forming our own opinions about the topic. We were reading, researching, watching speeches and shared our knowledge on our Jamboard.  Next week we will be writing about climate change.

Signing off from the Blog, hope you all have a good weekend.

Kayla and May.

Digital Literacy Week!

Today, as part of Digital Literacy Week, Primary 5 have been developing their coding skills. First, the children explored the role of coding through role play by creating a list of instructions or a code for each other in order to navigate an obstacle course. The pupils then used Chromebooks and the computers in the ICT suite to practise making codes to complete a Minecraft game. Mastering this involves precision as well as a lot of problem solving and all of the pupils tried very hard, well done Primary 5!  (ARTICLE 17 and 28)

Welcome to 5.2

Welcome to Primary 5.2

As you will know Primary 5 have moved upstairs to our new classroom and are already having lots of fun while revising areas of the curriculum from last year.

Literacy

We were writing a letter to our Primary 4 teacher Miss Aslam telling her all about her summer and sharing a few things we did. We took part in book tasting, exploring different types of book and discussing our favourites and added some descriptions and reviews to our library books.

In ICT we took a vote on which book we wanted our class novel to be and the winner was… ‘The Unexpected tale of Bastien Bonlivre’.

Art

We have been learning about different art techniques, one of our activities was paper marbling called Japanese Suminagashi. We mixed a range of inks with water to create our own marbling designs. We then used this to write our names with a cool background.

Health and Wellbeing

In health and wellbeing we have been discussing our expectations within our class, we have explored the rights that each child has and chosen the most important 6 to displaying them on our class charter. Finally we have been make steps to  make our class and school  more compassionate and connected.

Finally I look forward to seeing some of Primary 5/2 at the Basketball club which starts Monday the 5th for 4 weeks. As there was a big interest in this club I hope to run another session to insure the majority of pupils who were interested gets a chance to attend.

There will be photos added to the blog as soon as all consent forms for pictures are back. Hope you are all well.

Miss Andrew

Class planters

Following on from our previous post about germination, we decided to take our class planters outdoors to plant them in a bigger space with more fresh air, water and sunlight. We used compost, watering cans, trowels, forks, and more. We worked in small groups to complete different tasks such as pulling out weeds, preparing the soil, planting the biodegradable pots and watering the plants. We look forward to seeing our plants blossom! 🪴💐☀️

Open afternoon

Thank you to all of our families and friends who came to visit our classroom on open afternoon last week. We loved having you and being able to show you around our classroom to look at all the hard work we have been doing. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and thank you for helping us complete our jubilee themed art work too! ☺️

Jubilee Menus

We have been learning about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. We researched the different events that were going to take place around the country to celebrate. We decided to help plan the menu for the Queen’s Platinum Party, which was held in Buckingham Palace. We used the Sainsbury’s website to choose starters, mains and desserts to serve at the party. Next we used a calculator to calculate the cost of each course. Have a look at our delicious jubilee menus below. 👑🍽

Animation

In ICT we were keen to learn about animation. Animation is when drawings and objects look like they are moving. We used a website called Sketch to practise animating our own characters. First we drew a picture of our character and coloured it in.  Next we took a picture of our drawing and uploaded it to the website. We followed the steps on the website to make sure our character drawing met the requirements for the animation to work. We loved playing around on the website using the animation tool to bring our characters to life!

Germination

Our science topic this term is germination. Just like humans, plants need certain things to grow and survive. We have been learning about plant growth and survival, parts of a plant, methods of seed dispersal and how plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. We decided to plant and grow our own plants. We used soil, seeds, biodegradable pots and water and have enjoyed watching their growth and progress in class. Keep an eye on our blog for an updated photo of our class planters. 💐🍃🪴
