Primary 2 have been busy using different materials to construct a 3D model of an area within Barrhead. We are using our knowledge of Barrhead and google maps to identify what we should include in our model. We have been learning to work in small groups and share out responsibilities.
Today we were learning to link addition and subtraction facts in maths. Mrs Burnett gave us three numbers and in pairs we made four facts using these numbers.
This morning we went a walk round our local area. we followed a map but there were some things missing from our map. During our walk we had to identify the missing buildings or street names. We passed Evie and Isla’s houses on our walk. Unfortunately the rain started and we stopped our walk at the train station. When we got back to class we used Google Maps and extended our map along Paisley Road.
Today we visited the ladies in the lunch hall to find out all the different ways they use maths in their job.
May- “they have to count the bands for each class”.
Sophie-“they use maths to count the plates”.
Nathan- “the bands need counted”.
Mustafa- “they have to count how many sandwiches they need”.
Rory- “count the cutlery”.
Emaline- “they have to count to make sure they have enough food for everyone”.
Elysia- “the ladies count how many bands each class needs.”
Isla- “the plates need counted”.
The boys and girls counted cutlery, drinks and soup. We then asked the ladies questions about their job. Thanks lunch ladies!
Primary 2 have been learning numbers to 100. They have been identifying the number before and the number after.
This morning Katrina, the architect working on the new nursery, visited Primary 2 to talk about her job and the nursery plans. We learned what an architect does and how important maths is in this job. Katrina explained that architects have to calculate how much space they have to build in and the size of everything that they build. Katrina showed us plans for the new nursery and maps of Barrhead present and past.
This week we have been using lots of different resources to spell words.
Our new topic is all about our local area. Pupils looked at floor plans of the school and the new nursery. We discussed what we noticed about floor plans and pupils identified the rectangle shapes. The boys and girls worked together to find our classroom, their old primary 1 classroom and the muddy movers area on the map.
Amie- “We are looking at floor plans of the nursery and the school”.
We each created a floor plan of our home.
May – “we drew our houses like we were high up in the sky looking down”.
Kayla- “birds eye view”.
After we found our house on google maps pupils used different materials to make a collage of their own house.
