Location of the rainforest

As part of our rainforest topic we have been using maps and atlases to locate the rainforests around the world. We can identify the equator, an imaginary line around the planet, where many of the rainforest lie due to the hot climate here. We also learned about the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer and highlighted these on our maps. We have enjoyed reading the rainforest books which have been added to our class library this term. πŸŒ²πŸƒ

Welcome to Primary 4

Hello and welcome to our Primary 4 blog. Here you will find photos and information about what we have been learning in school. ✏️

We have settled into school well after a relaxing summer holiday and are glad to be back to more normal school routines and seeing our friends and teachers everyday. ☺️

Our PE day is on a Wednesday and spelling, reading and mental maths homework are issued every Monday and due on Friday. πŸ“š

Here is a photo of our classroom and some of the work we have been doing.

We made these all about me posters during our P4 taster day with Miss Aslam. We shared information about our favourite things, families and characteristics.πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

We created calculations as part of our maths figure me out challenge. By solving the calculation you will reach the answer to our questions. βœ–οΈβž—

We enjoyed hearing about one another’s summer holiday and writing about them using descriptive vocabulary. 🌞

We worked together to make a class charter as part of our Rights Respecting School Status. We chose 6 rights from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and voted on a theme. The most popular theme was animals. 🐾

We were inspired by the work of a famous French painter, Claude Monet. We studied his art work and used different materials to create our own. πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸŽ¨

Keep an eye on our blog to see what we get up to in Primary 4πŸ™‚

Farewell Primary 3

Primary 3 had another good year at Cross Arthurlie and despite a period of learning from home, they’ve shown resilience and confidence by bouncing back.Β  We look forward to seeing everyone back for Primary 4.

Roman Shields

We have been learning about Roman soldiers and armour. We recycled our old cereal boxes to create Roman shields with acrylic paint. We created our own unique designs using silver and yellow paper!

Relay Racing!

We have been learning to work as part of a team whilst doing relay races! We have been trying to control objects on a racquet without dropping it and are learning to follow the rules of the games we have created!

Tiling 2D Shapes

We have been learning to identify 2D shapes that tile!

We created lots of Β tiling patterns using different combinations of 2D shapes. We also used the Chromebooks to tile shapes digitally! We tried our best to make sure our patterns had no gaps.

Science Magnets

In Science we have been exploring the forces exerted by magnets 🧲

We have being learning about how magnets can repel or attract and that magnets have a North and South Pole.

We also helped to design a magnet maze game. We have had lots of fun with magnets!

Β

Roman Mosaics

We have been learning about Roman mosaics. We moulded clay into different shapes and used coloured beads to create a colourful tile, just like some Romans had in their homes!

Singing In The Rain

We loved creating our ‘Singing In The Rain’ artwork. We used oil pastels to create the effects of puddles and rain. We then painted over the oil pastels and made our paint very watery to create a rainy day effect. We also used the oil pastels to draw our own umbrella and rainbow!

Solo Talks

Since returning to school, we have heard a solo talk each day. We have been great at practising our speaker voices and also learning how to be a great audience! We all chose to speak about different topics which were special to us and we all learned so much more about each other!
