Addition

We have been very busy with our number work this week. We have been using cubes and counters to deepen our understanding of numbers, their place and their value. We practised using the cubes to make a calculation before writing it out. Some of us have been  working on addition with carrying. Using the cubes has helped us to see that we can exchange 10 units for 1 ten when doing our calculations!

Halves and Quarters

We have been learning about halves and quarters. We really enjoyed learning how we could share our counters with two or four people, making sure that we all got the same amount!

Children in Need Day Talent Show

On Friday, we had so much fun performing our talents to the rest of the class on Children in Need Day to reinact the BBC talent show. We had some people showing karate moves, dancing, gymnastics, poems and some acting! We were all so impressed by our classmates.

Road Safety

In health and well-being we have been learning how to cross the road safely.  We had lots of fun getting into groups to practise our STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK routine!

We love multiplication!

This week we have been learning our 2 multiplication table. We had lots of fun making an array house, playing splat games and creating sets and groups of twos using cereal and Lego. In another fun game we had to try and race a partner and beat the clock.  Have a look at our learning below.

RME Parables

We have started a new RME topic all about the Parables of Jesus.  We listened to and discussed the story of the two builders or the wise man and the foolish man.  We talked about the message of the story and how we should always work hard in everything that we do and be kind to others.

We used different building materials and tried to build a house on cushions to be like the foolish man who took the easy way out.  We then built a house on solid foundations – it was more difficult to knock down!  We decided we would rather be like the wise man.

Science Space

Primary 3 have been learning all about space.

We had great fun working collaboratively to create space shuttles.  We used different collage materials and came up with great ideas.  We presented our finished rockets to the class. In our groups we also had the challenge of creating moon fact files.

We have also been learning about the phases of the moon and created our own phases of the moon books.

Have a look below at the models we made to show that the Earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the earth.

Compound Words

We have been learning about compound words! One of our targets this week has been to build compound words from the smaller words that we pull from the box.

We are all developing our teamwork skills too!

Maths Week

Design a board game challenge.
In Primary 3 we have been working independently or with a partner to design our own board game.

We had to think of boardgames we enjoyed and then it was our chance to design one of our own!

These are the things we had to think 🤔 about.

What are your favourite areas of maths? Will it have counters or characters to move, a dice or a spinner? Will there be additional task cards to challenge your players?

Design a boardgame that your classmates can enjoy! You will need clear rules and instructions.

Remember to make your game bright and colourful!

This is us planning and designing our gameboards!

Science

We have been investigating – Night and Day.

  • We can identify why and how we have day and night time.
  • We have explored how we experience night and day as we move away from the sun.
  • We understand that it take 24 hours for the earth to rotate once.

We had lots of fun exploring night and day using the torches and globes. We created models of the earth and sun to show that the earth 🌍 rotates around the sun ☀️
Our next steps are to investigate the phases of the moon. We are going to create our own moon booklets.
