Back to School

Hello everyone and welcome to Primary 4’s class blog where we will share pictures of all the wonderful learning we get up to. Primary 4 have settled in well over the last few weeks and we are very proud of all them.

Some important information:

Our PE day is a Friday.

Homework will be issued on a Monday and due on a Friday.

Mrs Burnett will be with Primary 4 on a Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays. Mrs Kane will be in class alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

We have been learning about our rights in class and worked in pairs to select the six rights that we feel are most important for our Class Charter.

Adults should do what’s best for you – Article 3

You have the right to an opinion and for it to be taken seriously – Article 12

You have the right to find out things and say what you think – Article 13

You have the right to choose your own friends and join in or set up groups – Article 15

You have the right to a good quality education – Article 28

You have the right to play and relax – Article 31

Next, we identified what adults and children can do to make sure we can enjoy these rights. Some suggestions were, Emily – be kind and let others join in, Abi – if you see someone left out in the playground ask them if they want to join in. Emilia – Treat others how you want to be treated. Harris- don’t talk over others and our teacher should give us the chance to talk and listen. Travis- adults in the playground should help us if someone is hurt or if someone is doing something they shouldn’t.

We voted and picked the theme of gaming to display these rights as, “we are in control of our rights!”

Farewell Primary 3

Primary 3 had another good year at Cross Arthurlie and despite a period of learning from home, they’ve shown resilience and confidence by bouncing back.  We look forward to seeing everyone back for Primary 4.

April 2021

It is lovely to be back in school after the Easter Holidays.

We have been catching up on all the news and revising some learning from term 2 as well as beginning new topics.

SYMMETRY

We created our own symmetrical patterns.  Some of us used one line of symmetry and some used two.  We collected lots of everyday objects from the classroom to make our patterns.  Some of the patterns were 3D! They were all superb!

SOME SYMMETRICAL PAINTINGS

EXPLORING SPRING

We created our own beautiful Spring pictures using paint, pastels and collage materials.  They look lovely on the classroom walls.

DECEMBER 2020 🎄⛄️🎄

OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY!! 🎉

We had a brilliant time at our class Christmas party! Everyone looked lovely and we had a great time playing lots of party games and making fruit kebabs!

WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT VOLUME AND CAPACITY

In class, we have been learning about millilitres and litres.  We explored this topic by using lots of different sized containers and we discussed which could hold most or least liquid.  We compared the amount of liquid each container could hold.

CHRISTMAS  CRAFTS

We have been working hard to make sure our tiny Christmas trees were ready to sell to our families. They look very cute and we hope everyone enjoys having one to  own!

WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT WEIGHT

We have been looking at different food packets.  We explored how heavy or light different things were by looking for the grams and kilograms information.  We were able to order the packets from the lightest to the heaviest weight.

SNOWY ART

Our snowy creations were very creative and now we can’t wait for some real snow!

LEGO SANTA

Well done!  You designed and built a wonderful Mr Claus!  Thank you for bringing him in to see us. 🎅

November in Primary 3/1

SUPER HEALTHY SANDWICHES!

We have been learning how to write instructions and to begin with we made a cucumber sandwich.  We made a really good job of this and most of us ate them straight away!

Afterwards, we were able to write clear instructions using important vocabulary like … first, next, then, put, etc.  Well done Primary 3!

REMEMBRANCE DAY – 11th November 2020

We have been learning about the Poppy Scotland Charity and why poppies are so important.  We decided to be imaginative and used different art materials to create our own poppies.  They are beautiful!

CHILDREN in NEED 2020

We had a great day in class on the 13th of November.

We wore our own clothes in exchange for a donation and we learned all about this amazing charity.

In the afternoon, we held a talent show which was absolutely amazing!!  We are a very talented bunch!  Well done to everyone who took part – we raised £9.50 for the charity! 😊 💖 😊

October in P3/1 🎃

We had a brilliant time at our Hallowe’en party!

We created some marvellous masks using art materials, played spooky bumps and pass-the-parcel, and transformed some of our friends into mummies using toilet roll!

September in Primary 3/1 🎨🍂🦁

What a busy and brilliant month we’ve had in school!

We have been learning about symmetrical shapes and patterns in the classroom and also outside in the school grounds.

We used colourful cubes and also natural items we found in our environment.  Super creations! 🤩

We have also been learning how to sew!  It was quite tricky but we did it!

PAINTING

We love painting!  Our paintings are very detailed and we have enjoyed studying the work of Steven Brown.  We are very proud to see our creations hanging in the classroom!

MEASURING IN CENTIMETRES AND METRES

We have been learning how to measure in centimetres using rulers and metre sticks.

Our challenge was to create an item which was exactly one metre long.  We made a great job of this and we loved the challenge!

Busy times!  We can’t wait to see what October brings 😊

August in Primary 3/1 😊
