Viking runes

The children explored viking runes. They wrote their own name using the viking alphabet and wrote a secret message to each other.

They loved making their own viking stones out of clay and carved their initials into them using viking runes.

Viking clothing

The children explored the type of clothing Viking men and women would wear.

They investigated the materials that were used to make the clothing and how different materials were used to show a Viking’s wealth.

Using a variety of material including leather, silk and wool the children designed and created their own Viking clothing.

Fantastic job Primary 4!!

Speech marks

Today we were learning to identify and use speech marks.

We had great fun using macaroni pasta to add speech marks to sentences and questions.

We used magnifying glasses to search for speech marks in our reading books.

Highland Dancing

We have been learning about Scotland.

We have investigated Scottish cities. Landmarks. Lochs and many other interesting things.

The pupils  have created landmark leaflets, wrote an imaginative diary entry about seeing Nessie the Loch Ness monster and created fantastic art work.

We have also explored different Scottish traditions and food.

Today the girls demonstrated their fantastic Highland dancing skills. Well done girls!!

Pizza fractions

The squares have been learning about fractions. They had fun exploring different fractions while creating delicious pizzas.

Thet split the pizzas into different equal parts and then created a recipe for the pizza showing what fraction of toppings went on each one.

Judo

Primary 4 have enjoyed having two fantastic judo inputs at Barrhead Foundry.

The instructors taught them new judo skills and they participated in individual, pair and group activities.

Have a look at them in action !! ò

Halloween fun

The boys and girls enjoyed a spooky Friday.

They took part in lots of Halloween challenges such as mummy making, design your pumpkin online, ghost bowling and Halloween co-ordinates.

I loved seeing all of the  super costumes.

In the afternoon we had a Halloween mask making actuvity and watched a scary  movie with spooky snacks

Halloween STEM challenge

This week we enthusiastically took part in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) challenge. Pupils were challenged to build a bone bridge using cotton buds, lollipop sticks, pegs, tape, string and pipe cleaners. The bridge had to hold the weight of our class spider, stand alone and be longer than 5cm. We spent all afternoon sketching out plans and building. We had so much fun whilst developing life skills such as problem solving and teamwork.
