We learned about different volcanoes and their states; dormant, active, extinct. We also discussed the largest volcanoes and where we find the majority of them – the ring of fire!

We went onto paint our volcanoes in preparation for exploding them next week! Stay tuned to watch the result!

As part of our natural disasters and Earth materials topic, the children have been discussing how the Earth is made up and how minerals are formed. We made some volcanoes to explode next week. This also links back to our chemical reactions topic, but we will see that in next week.

Today we looked at minerals, otherwise known as rocks! The class found out some great facts about a range of minerals. Did you know that Muscovite mica is used on furnaces!

Ok well not that kind of fan, but children have been making fans from bottles as part of our sustainability topic. They understand that they can be attached to motors to produce electricity.

We are reading the story Oranges in No Man’s Land which is about a girl in a war zone. Children have drawn the terrible conditions that the book describes her and her brother are living in.

We are painting the planets from our solar system. They will form our new exciting display including information about each one!

P6 are beginning to make their own solar system. They will use paper mache to create the spheres before leaving them to dry. In addition, they will use them to look at the enormous size of the solar system.
