P3: Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ปโœจ

Happy Halloween from P3/2! We are learning how to create art from inspiration across the curriculum. We are learning how to refine our fine motor skills through cutting, drawing and glueing.

We had so much fun practising these skills in the context of a Halloween! We used a range of materials to create these amazing witches! We loved pretending they were puppets when they were finished and giving each one a magical Halloween name! Well done everyone! Super creating! Wednesday Addams needed a wee lie down with a cup of tea after this one! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ•ธ๐Ÿ•ท

**Keira if you are reading this – we need a photo of you and your witch on Monday because Iโ€™ve fixed her hat and sheโ€™s ready for her photoshoot now!**

P3: Writing โœ๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“

We are learning how to retell the story of a place of local historical research. We chose to research and retell the history of Barrhead, Glasgow and then Scotland. We have started with Barrhead! In writing we are learning how to write a non-chronological report. We know this is a report which is written in any order, not the ordered that it happened in. We researched the Shanks Toilet Company to create a report all about the history of the famous, local business. We were really interested to find out more about a place we have heard of often but donโ€™t know much about

We used Sub-Headings to help organise our writing. This helped us keep our writing concise and clear for the readers ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ. We added images to make our writing more interesting. We made sure our sentences all began with a capital and ended with a clear full stop. Well done everyone in an amazing morning of writing! The results were excellent!

P3: Back to Normal ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’Œ

Hi P3/2! I hope you all had a great October Break! I just wanted to let you know that I am back to full health and I can’t wait to see you all on Tuesday! I had a bad virus called gastroenteritis! Thankfully it has cleared now and I have managed to enjoy the last few days of the holiday! I am so excited to get back to the classroom and get stuck into our longest stretch on the school calendar!ย  No more breaks till Santa comes!

See you Tuesday morning, Team P3/2!

P3: Sickness ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿค’

I am so sorry to have been off work this week and to have missed Open Afternoon. I have had a terrible stomach bug which is contagious (sorry family….๐Ÿ™„)

Open Afternoon is one of my favourite events on the school calendar and I have been really looking forward to it. However, my GP strictly said I must have no symptoms for at least 24 hours before returning to work, especially when I work with children.

I have managed to eat today with no drama so things are looking up! Yay! Please tell your child I say hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ย and I am missing them and I canโ€™t wait to get back to work and get learning and crafting again! I have another doctors appointment today for the update ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธ

Just wanted to come on here to update you all. I would have been on sooner had I not been so ill. Hopefully I can organise an extra Open Afternoon so I can meet you all properly without risk of infection! I hope you liked visiting the class regardless – we have worked hard to make it welcoming space to learn. Thank you for your support and patience!

P3: New Adventures โ™ฅ๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ“š

Last week we wished our classmate a huge good luck as he moves on to new adventures at a new school! We are going to miss him lots but we know he is going to be just fab! We were jealous that he will have even more new friends!ย ย Thank you so much to the lovely families of our class who came together to provide these beautiful ย gifts. We are very lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive community at XA.

P3: Basketball ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

In PE we are continuing to learn how to play and compete in possession games. The past few weeks we have been learning these skills within the context of basketball ๐Ÿ€.

This week we played a competitive game. We had to look for open spaces; make clean passes; throw and catch with increasing precision and above all when youโ€™re 7 years old, learn how to stay calm in a competitive situation. We did really well and all hands were shaken at the end of each game! And I managed to take photos without getting hit by a flying basketball! ย Yay! โ˜บ๐Ÿคโ™ฅ

P3: Maths Week Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ

To celebrate Maths Week in Scotland this week we had a special visit from our Nursery Site manager, John. John taught us how he applies Maths in the real world within his job. We learned how important maths is within building and engineering in making sure everyone is safe and that buildings and sites are secure. John used to work for the armed forces in demolition before pursuing a career in building. He was very passionate about both boys andย girls working within building and construction and that jobs in maths and engineering are not just for boys.

Once we had met John, we used the nursery ground plans to gather data about the different areas that will be available. We used tally makes to organise and collate our findings.

The next day, we learned how to calculate area. We designed and planned our own nursery ground plans. For each room we created, we calculated the area by counting the squared centimetres and writing the correct units if measure. Great maths everybody!

On Thursday we were lucky enough to experience a Taekwondo ๐Ÿฅ‹ taster session with Hazel Bracken! Hazel in the current Scottish, British, European and World female Taekwondo champion! Hazel taught us how to use our arms and legs to safely attack and defend. We got to use the pads to practise different skills! After our session we looked Hazel up on YouTube to see her in action…and we were not disappointed!

We discussed the importance of knowing how to do Taekwondo safely and correctly and that it is not about hurting others. We reminded ourselves that using these moves without the help and support of an experienced adult is not allowed at Cross Arthurlie ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ.

Hazel and our Sports Development Officer will be running a Taekwondo lunchtime club, starting in the next few weeks. If you loved this session then why not go along for some more fun! ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜Š
