P3: Superstar ⭐️💫✨

Special post for this superstar who has been working his socks off in Maths! He is working so well that I just had to send him to Miss Rice to show off his work last week! He came back with this massive sticker and an even more massive grin on his face! Happy learning is the best kind of learning!

I am so proud of everyone  in P3/2 and their amazing progress so far. What a special team I get to work with every day!  ☺️♥️✏️

P3: Food Chains 🌿🐛🦅

We are learning how to interpret and create food chains in Science. Our knowledge of food chains is so impressive! We have retained so much information over the last few weeks – I am so impressed! We know to start all food chains with a producer. We can categorise animals into different animal groups such as reptiles or fish etc, and also identify if they are a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore.

We know that food chains are created as all plants and animals require food and energy to survive, including us. We know that humans are at the top of all food chains!

We can identify and name decomposers such as bacteria and fungi and some bugs. We know that decomposers are essential in breaking down dead creatures and add nutrients to the soil which then support the plants which begins the food chain again! At this point we like to start singing The Circle of Life! Just us?!  🐗🐾🦁

To complete our Food Chains topic we created artwork to celebrate the king of the jungle! We learned how to collage to create these colourful masterpieces! Roar! 🦁

P3: Shortbread 👩🏽‍🍳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👨🏻‍🍳

We are learning how to retell the story of a place of local historical interest. We have explored Barrhead, Glasgow and finally…Bonnie Scotland!

In writing ✍🏽 we are learning how to write instructions. We looked a traditional Scottish recipe for shortbread! We followed the recipe to mix the ingredients; work as a team; knead the dough; use the rolling pins; create neat bite size shapes! We did so well and our classroom smelled absolutely delicious! We did our best to tidy up but wow, baking isn’t the neatest of activities with 20 p3s 😅🙈 We are lucky to have Senil who cleans our classroom each evening to make it lovely and clean for the morning.

Well done little chefs 👩🏽‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳 Did anyone risk a taste test at home?!

P3: Scottish Silhouettes 🌆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏰

In Art are learning how to apply line and colour. We are also practising how to cut more intricate designs to improve our fine motor skills. In Social Studies we are learning how to retell the story of a place of local historical interest.  To combine both of these areas of learning we took time to study and examine some famous Scottish Castles. We identified key features of castles in Scotland including turrets, flags and stone steps 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. We then applied water coloured paint to create a powerful Scottish sunset sky. We learned how to blend the colours to make a smooth overall finish.  We next drew and cut out castle silhouettes and arranged it against the background. We learned that a silhouette is a black outline created by the light being behind it as opposed to shining on to it. Don’t you think they look amazing?! 🎨🖌✂️

P3: Pantomime Prize 🎭🎪🎟

Last Monday we were so lucky! We took part in the first part of our pantomime prize! We have won a competition at Eastwood Theatre to go to see Cinderella on Monday 16th December! As part of the prize we got to take part in a Panto Workshop! We danced with choreographer; sang with the musical director and did stage warm ups with the director! We also met the cast who play Cinderella and the two ugly step sisters! It. Was. Amazing! We can’t wait to see them on stage and sing a long now that we know one of the main songs! Super effort from everyone!! Look out for us in The Barrhead Newspaper 📰 as the paparazzi were there today too! 📸

Letters and consent for the trip will be sent home this week 👍🏾🎟🎭🎪☺️

P3: Spreadsheets 📉📊🖥

In ICT we are learning how to navigate and use Spreadsheets. For our first lessons we learned how to:

  • access and open Excel
  • locate a row and cell on a spreadsheet
  • locate the fill tool
  • change the colour of the fill tool 🎨
  • create an image with the fill tool to practise navigating rows and cells
  • save our work with an appropriate and memorable title
  • orally state the purpose of spreadsheets: to input data and information and calculate numbers (we will progress to this in small, achievable steps)

The room was silent with concentration! A great start to using spreadsheets! 💻⌨️📈

P3: Food Chains 🌿🐛🐹🦉

In Science we are learning how to create and identify food chains.🎋🐼

We have been learning how to sort animals into what they eat and if they are a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore.  Now that we are more confident with this, we worked independently to sort out images into the correct category. This task was a little bit different and allowed us to use our visual learning techniques.

We then researched different food chains and learned that a food chain is the transfer of energy when one animals eats another animals or plant. The top of the food chain is the animal that is not the prey to any other animal. We discovered that this is almost always the most powerful, strong or smartest animal in that habitat. We created different food chains for various habitats. We know that a food chain always starts with a producer (plant) as they produce their own food from the air and the sun and water 🌻☘️🌴🌵🌱🌷

We applied critical thinking skills when thinking about where humans are in a food chain and if we are herbivores, carnivores or omnivores! We also enjoyed considering where prehistoric animals would be in a food chains such as dinosaurs! Great investigating, P3! 👍🏾

P3: Poetry ✍🏽📝♥️

In writing this week we learned how to apply rhyming patterns in poetry. In Social Studies we are learning how to retell the story of a place of local historical interest. We used this context to explore the poem of The Glasgow Coat of Arms. To start we looked at the coat of arms and spotted the different things that are mentioned in the poem. We looked at lots of different images of the coat of arms to help us spot them if we are ever out and about in Glasgow!

Next we studied the poem of the arms and looked for the rhyming pattern:

There is the bird that never flew,

There is the tree that never grew.

There is the bell that never rang,

There is the fish that never swam.

We noticed that every two lines rhymed. We then used a writing scaffold to think of our own items and what they never did! We found this really funny because we could put in our own ideas and make them fun and creative! The results were absolutely SUPER! We were so proud of our writing that we read them to each other in small groups and even to the whole class! We wrote rhyming poems and applied a clear structure to our writing. Well done, everyone!

P3: Road Safety 🚨🦓👣

We have been learning how to stay safe while crossing the road. We learned the Green Cross Code and investigated safe places to cross in both the countryside and city.

We read a story about a girl called Molly who had to cross a busy car park in the dark – it was VERY DANGEROUS. We thought about how to ensure Molly could stay safe on dark autumn and winter nights. We learned about fluorescent colours and then designed our own stickers to put on our bags and jackets to ensure drivers could identify us when crossing the road.

We are taught our Health and Well-Being lessons by Mrs Gauld while Mrs McMillan has her Non-Class Contact Time for planning.
