It’s all gone so quickly! The children have had a blast and todays activities have been blessed with some great weather!
Weather has cleared up! Children are getting stuck into the second day of activities! Today we have raft building, canoeing, hill walking and some more groups on boat rides.
A short hour and a half journey and we’re at Lochgoilhead. Got settled in and the first activities out the way albeit very wet. Little ramble, some speed boating, Jacob’s ladder and a hike!
The winners of the class competition are at the high school, competing to get into the final. Keira and Finlay are building a fair ground ride, 30cm in height with 6 seats.
Not really. But if there is, we need to know what kind of fire extinguisher to use. We have found that carbon dioxide (CO2) will extinguish a fire as there won’t be enough oxygen to keep the fire going. Fire also needs fuel and heat so take away one of those and it will also go out. P6 have been investigating how to make CO2 from a chemical reaction.
Do you know which mixture of substances will put out the fire? (ARTICLE 28)
?
Children have been making lava lamp as part of their research into chemical reactions. They have use oil and water, which they learned do not mix, along with alka seltzers which fizz, causing the dye and water to rise as it’s lighter. Lots of science learning going on! (ARTICLE 28)
P6 are painting our planets! We had a conversation about how big the planets were comparing them to each other. We also compared them to other objects. If Earth was the size of a marble Jupiter would be a basketball and the Sun would be a wrecking ball!
Oh how small we are!
How big is the universe? What’s the closest planet to us? Is there life of mars? Are there aliens?! P6 have just started the exciting topic of space! We have begun by creating a range of leaflets to share information about the planets in our solar system. Did you know that 1300 Earths fit in Jupiter? Isn’t that amazing!
Over the next few weeks we will look into more depth at the size of our solar system and combine our creative and literary skills to investigate all the interesting facts that space has to offer. (ARTICLE 28)
