Sustainability – Product Design

We have been working collaboratively to create a product that can help protect the environment. We did market research to evaluate  how popular items were and identify types of products that could be adapted.
Then we looked at advertisements and used our prior learning on persuasive language to write a presentation.

Our final products were:

Wooden Toy Car for kids to ride in. Replanting every tree to stop deforestation.

Bamboo lunch box – every purchase a tree would be replanted.

Resin straw –  made from 100% plant based materials

Metal Lego – sturdy and durable material. 100% plastic free

Huggle soft toy – 100% plastic free and made from recyclable materials. This toy can be planted in the ground and it will grow.

Egg-citing Easter fun 🍳🥚🐣

We had a fun last day at school decorating eggs and rolling them down the grassy hill.  We had a competition to see who could come up with the most unique design and took inspiration from characters. Our winner was ‘Egg Sheeran’ 🧑‍🦰

World Book Day 📕

We had a fantastic World Book Day, with a variety of costumes and celebrated our love of reading in lots of different ways.

First we went to share our favourite books with Primary 1 and read a story to them.

We discussed how different books make us feel and explored books we have in common. We took part in a scavenger hunt to find the names of different characters.

We watched an author and illustrator workshop to find out how they come up with ideas for characters in their books. We learned they take inspiration from people in their lives so we created our own imaginative characters and gave them names.
The day then ended with a parade in the playground where pupils could see the costumes from different classes.

We also got to visit the Book Fair and bought our own books.

Journey of Chocolate 🍫

To finish our topic on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and introduce our new IDL focus on Fairtrade we explored where our chocolate comes from.  We learned that it grows in hot countries on trees in cocoa pods and is shipped over to the UK.  Next we are going to learn how cocoa farmers run their business and how fairtrade helps people across the world.

Chinese New Year

We learned about Chinese New Year and created tiger mosaics for the school Mandarin competition. Well done to Emma and Isabella who won and our runners up Riley and Laurel.

Burns Supper

We had a fun afternoon learning about Robert Burns and the traditions carried out during a Burns Supper.

We started by saying the Selkirk Grace then piped in our Haggis before reading the Address to a Haggis poem. We enjoyed tasting some haggis and neeps.

Then we read the poem ‘My luv is like a red, red rose.’  Finally we had a toast to Rabbie Burns and tasted some shortbread.

All good Burns Suppers end with singing ‘Auld Lang Syne.’

French 🇫🇷

We have been learning to read, write and say our numbers to 50 in French.  We played games like hangman, bingo, matching and even got to write on the desk!
