P3: Maths Week Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

To celebrate Maths Week in Scotland this week we had a special visit from our Nursery Site manager, John. John taught us how he applies Maths in the real world within his job. We learned how important maths is within building and engineering in making sure everyone is safe and that buildings and sites are secure. John used to work for the armed forces in demolition before pursuing a career in building. He was very passionate about both boys and girls working within building and construction and that jobs in maths and engineering are not just for boys.

Once we had met John, we used the nursery ground plans to gather data about the different areas that will be available. We used tally makes to organise and collate our findings.

The next day, we learned how to calculate area. We designed and planned our own nursery ground plans. For each room we created, we calculated the area by counting the squared centimetres and writing the correct units if measure. Great maths everybody! ☺️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
