Impressionist Painters

This month we’ve been learning about the Impressionist painters that lived in France at the beginning of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.

Their paintings tried to capture a precise moment in time (like a photograph) by recording an instant ‘impression ‘.

We all really liked Claude Monet’s The Field With Poppies.  We tried to create our own version of this beautiful painting by using blobs of paint just like Monet had done.

We also really liked Monet’s The Water Lily Pond. We used crayons and then paint washed over the crayon to create our very own lily ponds.

Mandarin

Today Miss Wang taught us all about Chinese tea. There are 2 main differences between English tea and Chinese tea:

1 English tea leaves are kept within a tea bag while Chinese tea leaves are kept loose within a teapot.

2 you do not add any milk or sugar to Chinese tea 🍵

We also learned that there are 6 main types of Chinese tea and the range of health benefits that Chinese believe come with drinking tea.

Tea drinking is a relaxing, calm and social time with family and friends in China.

Some of us really enjoyed the Chinese tea while a few of us weren’t big fans.

Last week we enjoyed hearing the story of the Jade Emperor and the animal race. Take a look at our art work 🇨🇳

Summerlee Visit

After learning about life in the past we all really enjoyed our class trip to Summerlee.

First of all we had a really interesting work shop with Mr McDonald. We learned about school, toys, how to do the washing, what kind of shops there were, we dressed up and enjoyed a wee dance and much more!

After lunch we took the tram down to the coal mine and old houses which we really enjoyed exploring.

Outdoor Learning

While the sun shone in May we were able to take our learning outside. Here is a glimpse into our learning.

We can use our spelling rules to spell accurately 🖍

We can create a calculation that balances 9+5=7+7

We have been learning about numbers to 100.

We can measure volume using litres and millilitres.

We can put containers in order of capacity.

We enjoy creating our own artwork 🎨

Creating, designing and building our own structures is one of our favourite activities 🏛

We’ve been learning to measure in metres and centimetres.

Mandarin

We are really enjoying learning Mandarin with Miss Wang. We’ve been learning a song to say hello, say what our name is, good bye and thank you. This week we also learned to say panda, black and white 🐼 Then we made our own little panda book mark 📚🐼

Beetle Drive🎲

We have been learning about life in the past. Today we learned to play an old game called Beetle Drive. It was so much fun! We didn’t even realise we had to use our maths skills to calculate our points 😁🎲 Well done to Ruaridh and Eva who made full Beetles 👍👏👏

Sensory Garden

This week we enjoyed visiting the new Cross Arthurlie Sensory Garden. We enjoyed exploring the new scented plants, making a quiet wish, listening to wind chimes, playing with the colourful windmills and ribbons and exploring all the new ornaments. We are all looking forward to spending more time there.

Learning about life in the past

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about  schools and homes in the past.  Today we explored a range of artefacts and guessed what they were used for. If you’re unsure please ask us at home to explain what we were handling.

After exploring the artefacts we made some line drawings and wrote a sentence to explain what it was used for.
