We like to recognise achievements in school and outside and use or Proud Wall and Tweet Wall to celebrate.
This display is changed when the children wish to discuss their learning.
We have been learning about fractions and working out equivalent fractions using a big selection of resources. We can identify the denominator as the bottom part of the fraction and the numerator as the top number. In a fraction, the denominator represents the number of equal parts in a whole, and the numerator represents how many parts are being considered.
We had a go at at simplifying fractions by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.
Today we created lovely snowmen for our Christmas cards. ☃☃
On Wednesday we had to use our problem solving strategies and teamwork to escape the classroom. The building had been taken over by aliens from planet 🧠 Brainlara. They wanted to study how our brain functions when solving problems. Together we decoded a hidden message to escape just in time for lunch.
Using a variety of different learning styles we have explored the properties of 2D shapes. We investigated angles, sides, lines of symmetry and corners (vertices).
We enjoyed making 2D shapes with straws and toothpicks. We also worked on our tilling skills using shapes and a selection of apps on our google classroom. Our knowledge of 2D shapes was tested in Kahoot quiz.
We have been learning about probability over the last few weeks. We know that probability is the likelihood or chance of an event occurring. After some fun games we understood the probability line and can now use vocabulary such as impossible, unlikely, even chance, likely and certain.
We investigated the probability of finding different coloured smarties and different combinations of chew sweets.
We worked hard on our ability to make reasonable predictions as this skill will be important when we are making decision in the future.
Some of our lessons involved making a probability area model and using it to find probabilities of events. This helped to develop a strong conceptual understanding of probability.

After some great presentations Primary 4/1 voted on their new Eco and Equality representatives.
Well done girls you will be great in your new roles.
In the first few weeks of Primary 4 we have been working hard on our spelling rules. Trying different approaches to make spelling fun and engaging using sensory based activities and games.
We enjoyed exploring our new Google classroom. It has fun games to help us learn and we can talk to each other and Miss Galloway. We can access our Google Classroom from any computer via Google Chrome and logging into Glow. As the year progresses there will be lots of new learning shared with a selection of online resources and activities.
Our Digital Representative had her first meeting this week to discuss VR headsets and the use of technology in the school.
We had a chance to explore the VR headsets looking at different body parts in great detail.
We have been learning multiplication in lots of different ways. Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on the 8 and 4 multiplication and practising multiplying two digit numbers with carrying.
Kaboom is a fun game that helps us become quick with our multiplication facts. We always check our answers with a calculator.
We hope you are enjoying the Blog. There will be more to come next session as the Blog follows the class through their time at Cross Arthurlie.
