Red Nose Day

We learned about the Comic Relief charity and raised funds on Red Nose Day by having a Cake ‘n’ Candy.

Numeracy

We have been learning about time, subtracting and adding. We have also been learning about ½ and ¼.

Science

We have been discussing push, pull, forces and friction.

Social Studies

We learned about life in the past.  We enjoyed dressing up for our Victorian day.

Health and Wellbeing

In PE we were playing games that boys and girls in the past would have played.

 

French

We have been trying to create and answer short sentences, such as ‘What age are you?’

Art

We have been making Japanese lanterns.

Spelling

We have been learning how to use joined up handwriting.

Numeracy

We have been learning how to halve numbers, tell the time and calculate using money.  We will use time and money in the future, so that is way we are learning it now.

We also learned the symbols to represent ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’.

We had fun learning to measure.  We enjoyed measuring parts of our body using centimetres. img_4262

We learned fractions by halving and quartering pizzas made out of plasticine.

Art

We did some cross-curricular work in Art to link up with our Social Studies topic.  We used coffee to stain paper to make it look old.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been learning about different types of food.  We learned that there is a lot of sugar in fizzy drinks.

Mandarin

We have been learning about Chinese traditions and characters.  The Rooster represents 2017.   The year that most of our class were born in (2010) is Year of the Tiger.

Social Studies

We worked in teams to sort toys from the past and toys we play with today.  Then we created a PowerPoint about old toys.

Literacy

We learned about sound patterns in poems.  We tried to create sound effects to go with the words in the poem When the Wind Blows by John foster.

We have been learning how to throw and catch.  We also have had an opportunity to learn other sports that we haven’t done before.

Numeracy

We have been learning to tell the time on a clock. We learned analogy and digital in class. We also learned how to add and take away two digit numbers. We can add and subtract money and we know how to count out amounts of money. We have been measuring too.

Literacy

We wrote about imaginative superheroes. We made then up in our minds in class the we wrote them down in our writing jotter. We wrote out instructions about how to make gingerbread. We also have been learning about ‘magic e’.  We learned how to change the meaning and spelling of words.

Modern Languages

In French, we have been learning how to count up to 10.  We can also count down from 10 to 1. We learnt basic French words such as how to say hello.

Art

We made snowmen pictures using a cut, paint and stick strategy. We made a navy blue, royal blue, dark purple and indigo coloured back round with black trees and white dots as leaves.

We also made pandas for the new Mandarin classroom.

Social Studies

In our Weather topic we measured the temperature every day and talked about what to wear that day. We focused on Australia for our quiz; in the quiz we had to answer what should we wear.

PE

We have been playing football and basketball.  We also play at bunny hops.

Weather

In Primary 2/2 we have been learning about the weather; we made pictures of the weather using weather symbols.

Numeracy

We were learning about even numbers.  We put the numbers on snakes or butterflies.  We were also learning about counting in 5s and 10s to 100.  We were also learning about money; we can add and subtract using money.

Literacy

We were learning how to spell big words and write them in our spelling jotters.  We read a book then we were asked questions about it.

Science

We were learning and helping Discovery Dog. We watched a video then helped him answer questions. The teacher let us hold Discovery Dog and Naughty Nora.

Some people brought slugs and snails in.  We put gloves on to touch them; they were very slimy.

Art

We painted letters to make words on paper. We made letters out of shaving foam, red sand and pebbles. We made leaves because we were doing a number garden with Miss Galloway.

Social Studies

We have been learning about Jim and the Giant. We made an enormous bean stalk in class and we put it up outside our classroom for everyone to see.  We sculpted coins out of clay using special tools and painted them gold with gold paint.  We made glasses out of pipe cleaners.  We were also learning about the weather.

In Maths we have been learning about even numbers; we made an even number street out of houses with even numbers. We were learning about vertical adding calculations.  We have also learned about mental maths.
